Surprise “XCOM: Enemy Unknown” Demo Hits The PC

[via]

For PC gamers who want to get a jump on the extraterrestrial-fighting action, an XCOM: Enemy Unknown demo appeared on Steam today. It gives players a chance to play 2 levels of the single-player campaign, with plenty of tactical action and an introduction to the XCOM base.

In case you’re not already one of the many fans throwing money at this franchise, hit the break for more details about the full game.

——

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be a real-time strategy turn-based tactics game, a remake of the 1994 classic strategy game UFO: Enemy Unknown. It promises to make you commander of the secret military organization XCOM, in charge of defending Earth against an overwhelming alien invasion in the near future.

To win the fight, you’ll need to autopsy the aliens to learn more about them — and that means getting frighteningly close to them in order to stun them. You’ll also manage resources and command units during battles. Between tactical missions, you’ll return to base to strategize your next move against the super-advanced extraterrestrials.

The PC demo should give you a jump start on the action until the aliens attack on October 9, when XCOM: Enemy Unknown hits the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
