BioWare has announced a big expansion to the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer mode. Mass Effect 3: Retaliation features new enemies, environmental hazards, upgrades and class kits, including the Turian Ghost Infiltrator that should satisfy some snipers. Players can also unlock new Collector weapons, such as the Collector Assault Rifle.

For multiplayer junkies, the expansion also offers a Challenges database that lets players display banners and unlock titles. As players amass challenge points, they can access more of these bonuses.

Mass Effect 3: Retaliation will be a free download for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC as of October 9, though PS3 players in Europe will have to wait until October 10.
