Anime Review: [First Impression] Sakurasou No Pet Na Kanojo - 1

What color are you?

I would be pink because I’m in love.

Now before we get into the review, can I just say this anime has some of the cutest artwork I have ever seen? I mean, just look at it!

From the get-go, the anime introduced its colorful cast. Misaki Kamiigusa; a genius who already made a popular anime, but is also extremely full of energy. Jin Mitaka; a playboy who helps Misaki with her anime. Ryūnosuke Akasaka; never leaves his room and communicates through a computer program he made called Maid. Chihiro Sengoku; the dorm teacher who only cares about drinking and hooking up with men. Lastly, our main protagonist who cannot ignore stray cats: Sorata Kanda.

They all stay at Sakurasou, a dorm where all the trouble-making students stay at. These characters are all so colorful and the contrast between each character ensures that it will never be boring in Sakurasou (I would love to live in a house like that).

As the episode goes on, I realized that Sorata doesn’t have anything that makes him special. He is just a plain student who is bored with life. The local town seems to love him though. As he meets Mashiro Shiina, it became obvious that his boring life is about to change. Mashiro Shiina might just be the cutest character to ever grace my computer monitor since “Platinum Disco.” She is a really strange character and it seems like she is a princess without a maid. She doesn’t get embarrassed when seen naked or cares to wear clothes. She is like a lost kitten of sorts and I have instantly fallen in love with her. She also has extraordinary drawing abilities.

The episode is great as it shows off all of the cast, and at the same time ends the episode on a good note with you finally seeing who Mashiro Shiina really is. The storyline of the of anime, so far, looks like it can get pretty deep, as Sorata explains his boring days, and him explaining that his color was opal. I’m really looking forward to this anime as it seems like this one can make quite an impression in the Fall lineup. Or it may because I’m in love with Shiina after the first episode. Well, for whatever reason I had fun watching the episode as it showcased interesting characters, showed insight of the main protagonist, and introduced an interesting character that stole my heart.
