Anime Review: Btooom! - 2

More blood, death, explosions and questions.
——

In this episode we get to know the female protagonist in BTOOOM! She is named Himiko. I must say I rather enjoyed her back story and what was shown of her on the island during game play.

This episode mainly focuses on the Himiko story. We find out why she thinks she is being punished on the island and what exactly happened to her that makes her act the way she does. I think that Himiko is too hard on herself and even though what happened to her and her friends was a tragedy she needs to let go, move on, and realize it wasn’t her fault.

There are three other guys on the island in this episode who stumble upon Himiko and decide to protect her. I don’t want to spoil too much of this episode but as it turns out, the one guy I did like from the group that help Himiko turned out to be a total creep. I am not sure if he was made that way by being on the island or if he was a creep to begin with, but I am going to go with him always being a creep. I always flock to the creepy guys, even in anime. Himiko goes from being protected to protecting herself and she does a damn good job of doing so if you ask me.

The radar feature was used a bit more in this episode and it was explained as well. The green gem that is built into everyone’s hand is a tracking device. If you use it, you can see anyone in the area but you also make yourself visible on the radar. I though this idea was kind of neat.

That leads me to want to talk about another male character that was in the group of guys protecting Himiko. He didn’t use the radar or the bombs, while tracking people in the forest and escaping explosions. He also used his bombs to fish. I bet he is going to go far in this series and I am looking forward to find out what his story is and why he is in this game.

Once Himiko’s story is done, being told we meet again is where the last episode left off. We now know Ryōta Sakamoto’s story. We now know the Himiko’s story. If I didn’t know better, I would say that this is going to turn into a love story.

I personally like this anime. It has enough blood, explosions and sex to keep my attention the whole time . I am a sucker for survival games in general so that is one a few reasons why I am fond of this anime.
I think that this series kind of reminds me of Mirai Nikki (Future Diary) in some ways. For those of you who have not seen it, I highly recommend it. BTOOOM! is a game of survival and so was Mirai Nikki. In Mirai Nikki each person in the game had a diary that can predict the future, the catch being that each diary only predicts the future regarding certain aspects. In BTOOOM! the players use bombs to survive but each person’s bomb is different.

I am really looking forward to the next episode where we find out who is in charge of this survival game. As each episode airs, more and more questions are being answered. I can hardly wait to meet more characters and get more answers.
GO Rating: 4/5

Just a few extras that made me giggle during the show.

I wish there were cosplay booths around here!

Being that I am a female WoW player, this one made me smile.
