Anime Review: [First Impression] Psycho-Pass - 1

If you are looking for another slice-of-life harem, you should probably look the other way. Psycho-Pass is a gritty, dark story that is full of action and pure awesome.
——
Psycho-Pass takes place some time in the not-so-distant future. This is a place where machines can read your mind and judge if you are a danger to yourself and others, or if you’re a “normal” person. The words “Psycho-Pass” are the actual measurement of a human’s mental state. A bit flawed? I’m thinking, yes.
So, let’s talk about this fancy gun that the officers have in Psycho-Pass. The Portable Psychology Diagnostic and Suppression System, otherwise known as, The Dominator, is a gun used by officers during a mission. The Dominator system is able to calculate the Psycho-Pass level of anyone the gun is pointed at. If the number goes over the limit, you can fire. If The Dominator gets a low level reading, the gun becomes locked and the user is unable to fire. If you ask me, a superb job was done explaining the perks and flaws of this crazy device.

With all of that being said I am going to go ahead and say that even though The Dominator has its plus side in this society, the flaws outweigh everything else, making for an interesting story ahead.

Now, let’s talk about the characters. The first two characters that stand out to me are Shinya Kougami, who is an enforcement officer in this world, and Akane Tsunemori, a rookie officer. Shinya is a tall, mysterious and very attractive man. He comes off as a very serious guy who means business. Akane wins me over at once. She has big heart and knows that the system is flawed. Akane does what she sees as the right thing, even though she might be instructed to otherwise. I am interested in seeing how the different personalities play out in this series. I would like to see a back story about Shinya to find out what he is all about, as well as the other guys who are on the team.

Are stories that take place in an futuristic world not your cup of tea? Not a fan of blood and gore? I understand that. Even if that is the case, I think that you should check out an episode at least, because the animation, music and voice acting are absolutely worth a watch.

Can you seriously tell me that this doesn’t look neat?
