The Weekly Pull List: 10/31/12

Hello there, and welcome to the latest edition of the Weekly Pull List!
Every week I team up with fellow comics contributors Chris (lokiallthefucksigive) and Ryley (ryley-stbatman) as we go through the week’s releases and spotlight our five most anticipated comics from our Pull Lists.
Once again it’s that strange fifth week of the month, meaning we have the next batch of annuals from DC hitting the stands, with Justice League Dark and Swamp Thing amongst the new annuals. Meanwhile, Marvel continue to set the stage for Marvel NOW!, with The Mighty Thor coming to an end, and Wolverine and the X-Men entering its second year.
What made our picks this week? Read on to find out!

CHRIS’S PICKS

ANGEL AND FAITH #15
Returning from Quar’Toth, Angel and Faith discover Whistler breaking into their London residence. Naturally, they’re not best pleased, and Angel wants answers! Plus, a look at the origin of the villainous Pearl and Nash, the bad guys who have been a thorn in Angel and Faith’s side since their first appearance.

CAPTAIN MARVEL #6
Transported through time by the piece of the Psyche-Magnetron that gave her her powers in the first place, Carol Danvers finds herself face to face with Mar-Vell, and her past self! Plus, Helen Cobb is along for the ride! Carol’s time travelling madness concludes here!

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK ANNUAL #1
The War for the Books of Magic comes to a head, as Constantine and the Justice League Dark, joined by newcomers Frankenstein and Amethyst, launch one final assault on Nick Necro and the House of Secrets, with Zatanna’s life hanging in the balance! And what role will Timothy Hunter and Madame Xanadu play in this twisted game?

THE MIGHTY THOR #22
Even though his actions saved the Nine Realms from certain destruction at the hands of Surtur and the Manchester Gods, Thor disturbed his father Odin’s exile and tricked him into funnelling Surtur’s fires away from Asgardia. And now he must pay Odin’s price in this final issue that serves as an epilogue to the world-shattering “Everything Burns!”

WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #19
It’s a new year for Wolverine and the X-Men, and new perils await. Broo lies bleeding to death from a vicious attack by the Hellfire Club, and a new student has arrived. And a teacher has left, leaving a position to fill. Enter…well, read it and find out! Also: retribution, Wolverine-style!

RYLEY’S PICKS

BEDLAM #1
Nick Spencer and Riley Rossmo’s new ongoing Image series launches this week, and as a horror series it’s just in time for Halloween. In the past I’ve usually been impressed by what I’ve seen from both creators so I’ll go ahead and assume this will be worth a look.

HAPPY! #2
Grant Morrison’s latest indie work started interestingly last month and I’m counting on it continuing into even more Morrisonian (I’m coining that term) waters in this issue. I’ve heard this issue’s a game changer, so I’m more than excited to see that for myself.

JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK ANNUAL #1
The JLD were trumped by Nick Necro in last weeks issue which means we should see them regrouping for a final bout with the warlock. Jeff Lemire has yet to disappoint me on this series so I think I can count on this being quite an awesome issue.

SWAMP THING ANNUAL #1
Scott Snyder’s Swamp Thing has been, without a doubt, one of the greatest series of DC’s New 52 and in this Annual we get to take a look back at the character and his rivalry with Anton Arcane. I’m hoping the issue will give some context as far as what’s still part of the characters continuity, or how things have changed.

WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #19
Jason Aaron’s been penning one of the most fun Marvel books for the past year, and in this issue it steps into it’s second year. For the book that means it’s students are moving forth into their own sophomore years at the Jean Grey Academy, and after recent events the school is looking for some new teachers. Plus, a students life is on the line and it’s up to Beast to save his life. Sounds like a lot packed into a single issue, which means it’ll totally be worth every penny.
RYLEY IS ALSO PICKING UP…
- AMERICAN VAMPIRE #32
- AQUAMAN #13
- THE MIGHTY THOR #22
- WINTER SOLDIER #12
- RED HULK: MAYAN RULE TP

SAM’S PICKS

2000 AD PROG 1807
I’m really enjoying 2000 AD at the moment, with each of the five strips providing something different, yet wholly awesome. For fans of Judge Dredd, there are three strips currently running based in his ‘world’, with the lawman facing even more disruption in the already devastated Mega-City One, in the second part of “The Cold Deck.”
Meanwhile Wally Squad Judges Dirty Frank (Low Life) and Judge Point (The Simping Detective) see their stories continue, the awesome new strip Brass Sun explores the strange world of the Orrery some more, whilst Hammerstein’s mission in ABC Warriors moves ever closer to its conclusion!

AQUAMAN #13
The conclusion to “The Others” is here! With his old friends having been targeted by Black Manta, Arthur is at his breaking point, and ready to snap once again. With more mysteries behind Atlantis set to be teased, this issue looks set to see an epic grudge match behind Aquaman and Black Manta - and that is something which nobody wants to miss.

THE NEW DEADWARDIANS #8
The murder mystery with a twist ends here! I have thoroughly enjoyed this new mini-series from Vertigo, with the world that Abnett and Culbard have created being really fascinating. George Suttle’s investigation concludes this issue - as the Restless breach the perimeter protecting the Deadwardian society! This looks set to be one hell of a finish…

SWAMP THING ANNUAL #1
As “Rotworld” has now begun across Animal Man, Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. and Swamp Thing, now seems to be a good time to discover just how the world fell to the hordes of the Rot! I shouldn’t even need to tell fans of Animal Man and Swamp Thing to pick this up.

WINTER SOLDIER #12
“Widow Hunt” continues! The Black Widow is still rogue and lost to Bucky and S.H.I.E.L.D., so I guess its time to bring in someone who is fairly decent at tracking and bringing people in. And who better than Wolverine for the job? I’m loving this series at the moment, and I expect this to be another fantastic issue.
SAM IS ALSO PICKING UP…
- ACTION COMICS ANNUAL #1
- WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #19
