George Lucas To Give Away Most Of His Lucasfilm Sale Money

Yep, you read the title correctly; George Lucas has said that he will be giving away most of the money that he has made from the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney. Just so we know what type of figures we’re dealing with, ‘The Beard’ is raking in a reported $4.05 billion from the transaction.

Lucas has always been a big fan of education, charity work and trying to make a difference to the world, further showcased by the gesture of donating such a large amount to charity. He’s also, in the past, donated large amounts to the Film Foundation, Stand Up To Cancer and the fantastic Make-A-Wish Foundation. A Lucasfilm spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter, “George Lucas has expressed his intention, in the event the deal closes, to donate the majority of the proceeds to his philanthropic endeavors.“
Lucas himself has also put out a comment, “For 41 years, the majority of my time and money has been put into the company. As I start a new chapter in my life, it is gratifying that I have the opportunity to devote more time and resources to philanthropy.“
The deal is set to be signed, sealed, delivered by the turn of the year, with Lucas then retiring off into the sunset. At that point, Disney will have full control of all aspects of Lucasfilm, ranging from Skywalker Sound and Industrial Light & Magic to Star Wars, Indiana Jones and, err, Willow.
