Manga Review: Black Bird - 56

And it has come to this.
——
In this chapter, Misao becomes increasingly sleepy, often dozing through large periods of the day. Her appetite has changed as well, worrying Kyou that her Youkai powers are awakening. She becomes anxious that Kyou won’t accept that she simply wants to become his bride after high school. She is consumed by thoughts of Kyou, and is elated later to discover that he feels the same; Kyou validates Misao’s goal to become his bride. The chapter ends with Ren, who visited Misao earlier in the chapter. She reveals that Misao is most likely pregnant with Kyou’s child, explaining her weird behavior.
Alas, we have finally come to my final point of caring about this manga — a demon baby. Could it have stolen any more cliche’s from the Twilight series? Overall, except for the final bit about the baby, this chapter was really boring. Half of it was Misao falling asleep randomly and the other half was her simpering about how much she needs Kyou (something I just LOVE in female leads). The end caught me off guard, but the rest of the chapter was hardly worth the 40 pages it was made of.

I am hoping that the baby situation will bring out some of Misao’s better characteristics, because she has been pretty lame as of late. I’d hoped that she would get some powers of her own, but at this point it seems like a long shot. I am also curious as to how Kyou will respond to the news. I’m not sure whether he will want to kill it to save Misao or whether he will want to keep the baby. Honestly, I just have no idea how this is going to play out.

I’m hoping that the next chapter will contain a bit more action and that this whole baby issue doesn’t push this manga past the point of excess ridiculousness. That’s what you get for having unprotected sex, kiddies!
