With the spate of recent Star Wars rumors, from storylines to casting to directors, one name that is often brought up is that of Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro, director of the visually stunning Hellboy films, The Devil’s Backbone and Pan’s Labyrinth, is held in hugely high esteem by the majority of the geek world; many of which see him as an ideal fit to take on the next installment in the Star Wars saga.

The guys over at Fanhattan managed to quiz del Toro on his interest levels in a Star Wars film. When asked about the rumors of him being lined up for directing duties, del Toro responded:
“You know, I saw it on the Internet, but I haven’t approached them, they haven’t formally approached me. I mean, I heard some rumblings, but to me it’s really –- I have so many projects to discuss or think about. [For] something that is not a possibility yet, I don’t do that. You know, because I have so many things that I need to catch up with. If this becomes ever a reality, and there’s an approach to do it, I would then think about it, but –- it’s like thinking if I want to date a supermodel. I don’t think about these things.“
So, del Toro would be interested in helming a Star Wars film, although he’s not been formally approached. Make what you will of his use of the word formally in that sentence…
Whilst Steven Spielberg, Zack Snyder and Quentin Tarantino ruled themselves out over the weekend, and J.J. Abrams followed suit earlier today, del Toro has declared his interest in the project and also his aspirations to date a supermodel.
