Nothing is better than grabbing a bunch of friends and playing some video games all night long. All of you guys are having the time of your lives… until your so-called friends start to look more like enemies. What started out as laughing and joking has now turned into screaming and threats. Your face turns as red as the Red Shell that just hit you and your friend’s face turns as blue as the Blue Shell he just threw as you strangle him for jeopardizing your victory. Soon the games become battles and a war has just begun.

I was having trouble of thinking of a Top 5 to do, when it hit me — literally; my friend hit me as I utterly destroyed him in a round of Blazblue. Since this wasn’t the first time something like this happened, I knew that video games, while fun, destroy friendships. So I felt I should share the most rage-inducing games that I have experienced.

5. Any Fighting Game

Fighting games are a true test of skill as two players duke it out to see who will become victorious in the end. I couldn’t pinpoint a certain fighting game as the genre itself seems to invoke the same rage between its games. As an avid fighting game player, I can say that I have never been more pissed than losing to a button masher. You know what I mean; those players that press every button on the controller in hopes of finally pulling of an insane combo. Not only that, but fighting games have this thing where once you lose, you just have to try again. So you end up losing more than once and eventually you walk away with steam coming out of your ears. If you plan on playing fighting games, get ready for some intense moments filled with trash talk and death threats.

4. Animal Crossing

Now I know what your thinking: “Animal Crossing?! How could that ruin friendships?” But here me out on this one. Now imagine after hours of playing you finally have an orange farm growing and you are just waiting to profit from your hard work. Then, all of a sudden, a buddy of yours comes and chops down all your trees, puts pitfalls seeds everywhere and then pisses off all the your residents.

Maybe this never happened to you, but this happened to me, and I can tell you I was about to commit homicide.

3. Mario Kart

As you near the finish line about to claim your victory, you smile and laugh maniacally. You taunt your friends as you speed closer and closer to that Grand Prix trophy — but wait! Off in the distance you here a faint whizzing sound, almost as if there is a missile near by. Then out of nowhere, the incarnation of hell appears above your head as you helplessly try to reach the finish line. Then in a blink of an eye the blue shell hits its target inches away from the finish line. As you fly through the air, you see all of your friends pass you by and cross the finish line.

Tell me this hasn’t happened to you. I’m almost certain if you have played Mario Kart this has happened to you. I don’t even have to tell you how this turns friends against each other…

I have raged a countless (I don’t even rage at games that much) number of times while playing this game. One person can bring down a whole team or one bad play can mean utter defeat. This game really brings out the worst in me and my friends. At times we are screaming at each other for screwing up, and other times we are just give each other the silent treatment.

1. Mario Party

If you have never gotten mad because of Mario Party before in your life then you either have no emotions or you’re a robot. This game is the epitome of pissing off your friends: from beating them in mini-games to taking their precious stars, no matter what it is, everything you do in this game pisses off someone in some way.

When you’re done with this game, there is always one really happy (and lucky) person, while the other three friends think of revenge.
