First 8 Minutes Of “Ghost in the Shell: Arise” With English Subs

The first 8 minutes of the four-part anime series has been released on YouTube while Japanese fans of the GITS series await its cinematic premiere on the 22nd of June. Each episode of the mini series will be 50 minutes long, and will be available on Blu-ray disc and DVD in retail shops from the 26th of July, 2013.

The plot is set in Newport City in the year 2027. A year has passed after the end of the fourth non-nuclear war, and while the population is still recovering from the war’s aftermath, a bombing by a self-propelling mine occurrs. In the tragedy, a military officer becomes implicated under suspicions of bribery and is gunned down.

Section 9 of the Public Security force steps in. During the investigation, Daisuke Aramaki encounters Motoko Kusanagi, an expert hacker whom Batou is certain is behind the bombing. At the same time, a parallel investigation pertaining to the shooting of the military officer and a prostitute’s death is undertaken by Niihama prefecture’s police detective Togusa.

Fans of the GITS series have much to anticipate. The chief animation director, Kazuchika Kise, was the genius behind the widely popular Blood-C: The Last Dark, while Tow Ubukata of Le Chevalier D’Eon and Mardock Sramble fame will be supervising and writing the scripts. The music will be composed by Cornelius, the same person who have brought us the tunes behind Appleseed: Ex Machina.
