Plucked From The Tree: Steve Jobs Figure Pulled Off The Market
Remember that post about in icons’ Steve Jobs 12-inch articulated figure? Well, it looks like the company took a bite of a forbidden fruit.
This following statement was posted on the company’s (in icons) website Sunday:

“Though we still believe that we have not overstepped any legal boundaries, we have decided to completely stop the offer, production and sale of the Steve Jobs figurine out of our heartfelt sensitivity to the feelings of the Jobs family.”

It looked like there were a lot of people that saw this coming even though it’s not unusual to see figures made after other celebrities, living or deceased. It seems, though, that this figure wasn’t actually licensed and was instead just made “by a fan’s admiration of Steve.”
Regardless, it is a pretty good likeness and I commend the artist. There could be a possibility of a future release—that is, if everyone plays nice. But don’t take my word for it.

iSteve Articulated Figure

All you Apple users probably have everything Apple, now you can even own Steve himself—well, kind of.

Beloved Steve Jobs lives on in this in icons 12-inch articulated figure. It is not surprising that the first run of these figures are already sold out, though the official release is set for February.

Steve comes with two pairs of glasses, three sets of hands, his best-known attire, a chair, two apples (one with a bite) and a “One More Thing” backdrop so you can recreate your own Apple keynotes.

When I first saw the picture, I thought it was a photo of Jobs himself. The detail and accuracy of the sculpt is kind of eerie.

Here’s Your Life Running on GLaDOS

Well, not exactly your life since we aren’t all a bunch of models, but it’s still a good example of what a hilarious pain-in-the-ass GLaDOS would be if she somehow invaded our smartphones.

Also, GLaDOS may try to kill you.

Steve Jobs Steps Down As Apple’s CEO

Heads up turtleneck aficionados, Steve Jobs has decided to step down as CEO of Apple because of his long term battles with illness. He has had problems for several years now having a small tumor in his pancreas and a more recent liver transplant. However, soon after the announcement, Jobs was elected Chairman of the Board and Tim Cook has taken his place as CEO full-time. Apple stock has dropped more than 20 points in trading afterwards.

Below is Jobs’ full announcement letter.

Seems like a good move to me. Not entirely sure how successful it will be, but it’s definitely in line with DC’s recent commitment to embrace the digital comics medium.

The New Life of the Portable Game Console (Part 3)

This is the third article of the trilogy series of “The New Life of the Portable Game Console”. The first segment covered problems in the portable gaming sector, the second segment covered ways to possibly fix them and the third focuses on the future.

Final Thoughts

In this final segment, I want to look at a couple of different aspects that I have ignored so far: Apple’s good moves and the future of the portable game console.

The New Life of the Portable Game Console: Part 2

In the first part of The New Life of the Portable Game Console, we took a look at the problems facing the DS and PSP and examined the rise to power of the iPhone and iPod. Enough gloom, it’s time to look at the potential advantages that the two companies could take into the fight of the next generation of portable fun.

Countering the “i”nvincible Apple

Apple’s steam rolling juggernaut of the iPhone is bowling over the competition. There’s no denying the adverse effects the bite-sized apps and value meal games have had. The portability, form factor, and convenience have come to play larger roles than Nintendo and Sony could have possibly anticipated. What’s the lowly DS and PSP to do? There are multiple ways to combat Apple in the power struggle…

Geek Spotlight: The New Life of the Portable Game Console: Part 1

Making The Argument Against “i” Gaming

Just over a decade ago, we saw more diversity in the handheld gaming market. There were the likes of Sega, SNK, Bandai, and more at least attempting to take a piece of the market. Nowadays, it’s down to just three major players. Of course, the major hitters are Apple’s iPhone/iPod line, Nintendo’s DS and 3DS, and Sony with the PSP and NGP (PSP2).

Oh how the times have changed from the innocent 90’s.

Apple’s so-called “gaming efforts” have produced the bite-sized diversions we now call “games”. If I sound a little bit unhappy with the current situation, you’ll have to forgive me. It’s not that I don’t like any games on the “i” devices. After I play Angry Birds for a half hour, I just don’t feel satisfied by the game I just played. It’s like trying to eat at a fast-food restaurant when you’re craving a steak. It’ll fill you up and it tastes okay but you’ll still want that 16oz New York strip loin after. I think we really need to identify the problems that the portables are facing before we can even think about possible solutions…
