Previously, in Wolverine and the X-Men: The Jean Grey School has now been open for a few months, and has seen students graduate, such as Angel, and new students join, such as the time displaced original X-Men. Faculty members have also changed, with Husk leaving the school, and Kitty Pryde stepping down as headmistress in place of Storm. One thing remains constant despite the changes that the school has endured – this is the school where students and faculty will be the best there is at what they do.
However, the school has faced its share of threats as well. The Hellfire Club has targeted the school numerous times, going so far as to brainwash certain members of the student body, and attempt to recruit others to their own cause. They have also been assembling their own villainous faculty including Sauron, and have welcomed Glob Herman from the Jean Grey School into their new Hellfire Academy.

Previously, in Batman: The return of the Joker and the relentless assault of Talia Al Ghul’s Leviathan organization has damaged Batman’s relationship with his allies almost beyond repair. Retreating into himself after the death of his son Damian, Batman feels the need to tackle all of his problems alone. This includes trying to find out who has been committing robberies in the guise of Bruce Wayne – obviously, it is not him. Batman deduces that the culprit is Clayface, but when he confronts the villain, Clayface attempts to choke him to death.
And in our back-up story, Batman reluctantly accepts Superman’s aid when a mysterious light is seen inside a tenement building, alongside reports that numerous people have entered the building and not been seen or heard from again. Superman’s enhanced senses allow the duo to track down a survivor, who tells them that ‘it’ won’t let them leave. Concealed on the ceiling is a monstrous supernatural beast – which renders Superman’s advantages moot.

Previously, in X-Men Legacy: David Haller is tired of the X-Men’s reactive approach to superheroics, and takes it upon himself to try and stop threats to the mutant race before they even get onto the X-Men’s radar. This includes a mutant hating cult, which David has imprisoned upon the SWORD base, and lobotomizing Aarkus, a creature living on the surface of the Moon who was out to murder all mutants. David’s new approach hasn’t been met with happiness from his almost-girlfriend Ruth, the mutant known as Blindfold.
The catalyst for David’s current mission was the death of his father, Professor Xavier. Xavier’s body was interred at the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, but was soon stolen by the agents of the insidious Red Skull, who stole Xavier’s brain and implanted it in his own skull, granting him Xavier’s enormous telepathic powers. The Uncanny Avengers were able to stop the Skull for now, but he escaped, taking the brain of the most powerful telepath on Earth with him.

On a quick stop at the Metropolis Botanical Gardens, Alec discovers Jonathan Crane, frequent Batman villain the Scarecrow harvesting rare plants for his fear gas formula. Alec battles the Scarecrow, but falls unconscious after a barrage of fear toxins are unleashed – causing massive expansions of the botanical garden. When this series was first teased, it was being billed as two things; first, the main Marvel NOW! titles coming out of Avengers VS X-Men, and second as Remender’s successor to his incomparable Uncanny X-Force. For the first several issues, I could see that editorial was doing their best to make sure it actually was the premier NOW! title, but now the title is finally feeling like UXF. And it’s doing so in the most amazing of ways.

Ah, Thor - God of Thunder. The series that keeps on giving. I seriously believe that Jason Aaron just fished into my own mind and found out all of my subconscious desires as far as what I never knew I wanted (nay, needed) in a Thor comic, and then Marvel stuck Esad Ribic on interiors because he’s the greatest thing to happen to Thor art since Simonson’s first KRAKOOM! Yeah, this book can still get it.

Previously, in Superior Spider-Man: The new Spider-Man has been garnering attention that he should probably be avoiding. After slamming the Vulture into a spotlight, murdering Massacre in cold blood, and now thrashing Screwball and Jester within an inch of their lives, the Avengers are concerned that Spidey’s methods of dealing with his rogues gallery is getting out of hand.
And in the revitalized FEAST headquarters, now home to HEART and secretly run by the vigilante Cardiac, the medical marauder set his sights on one of Otto Octavius’ most innovative inventions – a brain mapping device that originally allowed Ock to control his mechanical arms, and now could be the key to saving a little girl’s life. But all Spider-Man sees is a theft, and battles Cardiac to a standstill. Before he can pursue, the Avengers call Spidey in for questioning, but Spidey declines – unfortunately the Avengers won’t take no for an answer.

Previously, in X-Men Legacy: The combined effort of David and Ruth was enough to defeat Ruth’s insane brother Luca, whose interference with Ruth’s powers have lead to her odd speech patterns and lack of control of her mutant abilities. The experience allowed David and Ruth to grow closer together, and a budding relationship has blossomed. Bolstered by Ruth’s faith in him, David’s control over his mental powers grows – even more reason for him to enjoy her company.
David has decided that he will no longer be reactive towards the threats that the mutant world faces, and instead will seek out problems before they reach the X-Men’s radar and nip them in the bud. This has lead to him infiltrating a mutant hating cult, as well as dealing with a mutant whose power involves taking credit for everything, even if it’s not his fault. Alongside this new quest, David has taken to trying to woo Ruth with psychic dates, and seems to be making progress.

Previously, in Wolverine and the X-Men: Hank Pym created an artificial intelligence which gained sentience and tried to kill all organic life on the planet numerous times; its name was Ultron. Although it was defeated at every turn by the Avengers, the worry persisted that Ultron would eventually gain enough power to win once and for all. That has happened – and the remaining superheroes must live in an Age of Ultron.
After discovering that Ultron was in fact attacking the heroes from the future, Nick Fury took a team through the timestream using Doctor Doom’s time platform to stop the robot once and for all. Wolverine and Sue Storm, however, decided to use the platform to travel back in time instead, and murder Hank Pym before he ever creates Ultron in the first place.
