Previously, in Dark Avengers: After being accidentally transported to a different reality, the Dark Avengers were embroiled in a war between superheroes — in this terrible dimension, New York has been divided up between Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Ben Grimm and a few other heroes as they fight for supremacy. The group is divided, with each of them getting sucked into a certain warlord’s army.

The only way to fix their predicament is to find Reed Richards – one of the few heroes who seems to be uninterested in the war and only in trying to restore reality to the way it should be. Previously, in Dark Avengers: The Thunderbolts returned from their trip through time just in time to save Luke Cage and the Dark Avengers from committing an act that would send the Earth spiralling into a cataclysmic dystopian future. As a reward, Cage and his fellow Avengers allowed the Thunderbolts to go free, and so Man-Thing used his teleportation powers to send them to the places where they would receive what they sought after most.

The Dark Avengers were placed into custody, and Warden Walker and Skaar were set to fly their transport ship back to New York for their imprisonment. Unfortunately, the Toxic Doxie used her powers to almost crash the ship. Moonstone flew up to try and catch it, but Man-Thing instinctively sent the ship through a portal in order to keep his friends on the ground from being flattened. Despite intending to send the ship back to New York, Man-Thing has instead sent it to a parallel world, and now the Dark Avengers, Warden Walker, Skaar, and Moonstone must find their way back home.

Evil Is Our Only Hope In New “Dark Avengers” Direction

Speaking at Fan Expo Canada today, Jeff Parker and new series artist Neil Edwards discussed the newest direction for the Dark Avengers series, which will see another new incarnation of the team, led by John Walker as the USAgent once again.

The only other revealed member is Moonstone, who continues to be a Dark Avengers/Thunderbolts mainstay, and Parker was tight-lipped about the exact direction the book would be taking, though he did heap praise on Edwards’ art.

It seems that once again the Earth is going to require some of its more shady characters to save it, as they have in previous Thunderbolts adventures, and continue to do so in the Dark Avengers title at the moment.

Dark Avengers #183 hits in December.
