“Defenders” Comes To An End As Fraction Heads Up “Fantastic Four” and “FF”

Matt Fraction’s Defenders title will be coming to an end in November with issue #12, Marvel has announced. Starring Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, Silver Surfer, Black Cat, and the Red She-Hulk, the final arc will be a Kirby-esque romp involving mysterious Wakandan artefacts that warp space and time.

It’s not all doom and gloom for Mr. Fraction however, as Marvel has also confirmed that he will be taking hold of both Fantastic Four and FF as part of Marvel NOW!

Details under the cut.

Fantastic Four May Be Coming Back - But Hickman’s FF Will Continue
A lot of people expected Marvel to resume publication of Fantastic Four with #600 on the horizon, but it was expected that the title would replace FF.
Marvel’s latest teaser, however, reveals that isn’t the case; the return of Marvel’s famous comic will not mean the end of the Future Foundation.
I would imagine that there will be a shift of focus in this title, with the spotlight being shone on the children and making this a support title to Fantastic Four.

Marvel Releases Second Image Teasing “Four”
Yesterday saw Marvel release a teaser for November, featuring the classic Fantastic Four logo and no other details other than the creative talents behind the project.
Today they’ve unveiled yet another teaser, which is equally vague, being a lovely painted cover of Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Thing and Spider-Man, who now of course make up the Future Foundation.

Comic Review: FF #1

I believe it’ll start to become a regular feature for me on here to do reviews for first issues of big new series so that readers can know whether or not it’s safe to invest in these new titles. I recently covered the first issue of the new Venom book, and this week I’ll do the same for Jonathan Hickman’s FF #1, which continues his story from his run on Fantastic Four, which I reviewed in its entirety recently.

Read on to see if I think that this new series starts off on a good foot and if it’ll be able to stand up to everything Hickman has laid out before it.

Marvels First Family gets a Retro Treatment!

Readers and comic fans might know that one of the members of the Fantastic Four, Johnny Storm, recently died. Writer Jonathan Hickman has been crafting an ongoing story leading up to that point, and now he has ended the Fantastic Four’s ongoing series after 588 issues and will be starting a new book entitled “FF” (which stands for Future Foundation).

The first issue goes on sale at the end of March, and will have plenty of variant covers for collectors to pick up. This cover was just revealed recently, and has the original colorist for the first issue of Fantastic Four, Stan Goldberg, penciling it! There are also covers by Daniel Acuna, Marko Djudjevic, Jared Patel, and Steve Epting.

FF will feature the remaining three members of the Fantastic Four along with a team of various heros and children that Reed has been assembling through Hickmans run, including the Richards children (Franklin and Valeria), the Power Pack, a slew of aliens, and as seen on the cover, Spider-Man! The team will be working towards an initiative to eliminate evil from the Marvel Universe through more scientific manners.

Be sure to look out for a review of Hickman’s entire run on Fantastic Four from me soon!
