Daniel Radcliffe To Star In “Tokyo Vice” Movie

It looks like Jake Adelstein’s Tokyo Vice is not only getting a live-action film, but it already has its leading man. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) will star as the author, as the adaptation details Adelstein’s real-life story of being an American who covered the Tokyo Crime Beat and the Yakuza.

Tokyo Vice is a personal favorite of mine, and while I don’t really see the resemblance between Radcliffe and Adelstein, I’m sure he’s got the acting chops to do the film justice.

Production is scheduled to begin next year.

Show Some Hufflepuff Pride With “Sorted This Way”

So Hufflepuff is sometimes overlooked compared to some of the other Harry Potter Hogwarts houses. But if you’re a supporter or a member thanks to Pottermore, you can now take pride thanks to not-literally. This Lady Gaga parody called “Sorted This Way” should serve as the perfect anthem.

A “Paddington Bear” Movie On The Way From “Harry Potter” Producer

[via]

According to blu-ray.com, Harry Potter producer David Heyman is setting his sights on another British literary icon, Paddington Bear.

The Mighty Boosh director Paul King will be helming, with Heyman producing, the story of the bear from “Deepest, darkest Peru” who travels to England and is adopted by a family that finds him in Paddington Station. Not much is known beyond the fact that it will apparently be a cgi/live-action hybrid film in the vein of Yogi Bear & Scooby-Doo, but hopefully, you know, better.

Pottermore Is Public

Wizards, rejoice! Hogwarts has become a public school!

Now you too can delve into the world of Harry Potter just as your annoying friends did months ago. The only catch is that once you register you still need to wait until you can start playing.  How long will this wait last? I can’t say, the only hint we have is that the Pottermore Insider claims that they will “activate new registrations in a steady stream”.  I suppose this means the sooner you register the sooner you can play. But they also claim that they “will get you exploring the site as quickly possible”.

Fan Favorite - Sweet 16: Harry Potter vs. Vriska Serket; Chihaya Ayase vs. Wild Tiger

Today features a worthy championship battle dressed in a Sweet 16 match. Both characters were able to advanced past the 1st round without much effort. Harry Potter zapped Peter Brand out of Hogwarts and Vriska Serket swiftly booted M’aiq The Liar off of Trollian. One of these characters will lay claim to being the last four-eyed geek standing. Who will it be?

On the Otaku bracket, an all-anime battle awaits two characters who also managed to make short work of their 1st round foes. Chihaya Ayase gracefully overwhelmed Maho Shirafune and Wild Tiger NEXT’ed Naruko Anjou. Will the aspiring Queen get past another male protagonist, or will Sternbild’s hero subdue another teenage beauty?

Geek Spotlight: Muggle Quidditch

(Above: The start of a game of Quidditch.)

I grew up not understanding why people liked sports so much.  During my entire childhood, I was far more content reading a book or playing video games than playing outside with the other kids. But I had a series of life-changing events during the first weeks of my college life.  I am now beginning to understand why people love sports so much.

Why? Because I am now a Quidditch fanatic.  I am proud to say I am on the Virginia Tech Quidditch Team — the Virginia Tech Phoenixes — and our bi-weekly practices are, and most likely will always be, the highlight of my week. Muggle Quidditch, as it is officially called, is more than just a hobby, it is a passion. And the culmination of all this passion can only be one thing — the annual Quidditch World Cup.

Weekend Remix: Last Dance at Hogwarts

Song: Alohomora
By: Pogo aka Nick Bertke
Based On: Clips and Music From Harry Potter And The Philosophers Stone
Original Composer: Director Chris Columbus and Score Composer John Williams.

Faster than you can say Colloportus, the “Weekend Remix” is back, ready to say hello to the weekend and goodbye to a film franchise.

Admittedly, I may be showing my age by writing this, but a young pixandwords was a sophomore in high school when the first Harry Potter film, The Philospher’s Stone, came out. Hmm, carry the two, plus the five, divide by zero, and in internet years that’s a smidge before ancient. Don’t even ask my age when the books started.

As many of you know, this weekend marks the end of a magical era on the silver screen, as the eighth and final Harry Potter film, The Deathly Hallows Part 2 makes its behemoth emergence. One may have to hand it over to Warner Bros. for producing, at the very least, solid films based on the novels.

After roughly a decade of consistently having a new Potter film every few years, it’ll be strange to see it all kind of cease. But as that old saying goes, all good things must come to an end. And when facing the ending, it’s natural that we often take the time to look back and reflect.

This week’s remix is perhaps appropriate in that aspect, as Pogo’s Alohomora is really a video remix of  when the film series began. Not only is the audio visual mix-mash catchy, but it’s also a brief spotlight placed on the film series’ beginnings.

Aloharoama is the perfect time to put down the paper mache Golden Snitches or stop drawing the Potter scar on your friend’s forehead with magic marker after they pass out, and simply reflect. And then of course, afterwards, you could always pick things back up with this funky theme remix.

If you’re interested, Potter isn’t the only one who has received the video remix treatment from Pogo. Based out of Perth, West Australia, the VJ has done viral remixes like Upular (Up), Alice (Alice In Wonderland), and Skynet Symphonic (Terminator 2: Judgement Day). So if you’d like to check out more, you can visit his site here.

Until Next Weekend…GO Party!
