Top 5 Thursday: Ecchi Anime

[via]

Boobs, panty shots, upskirts, blatant jiggles, perfect bodies, seductive thighs, exposed napes, mild to complete nudity, sexual intent.

Alright, I’m not sure if I’m the resident ecchi anime guy but I know for a fact that I’ve watched a good number of serviceable shows. It’s hard to really put value into what can either be pleasing or disturbing for the viewer’s eyes but I’m going to try and compile an innocent list of some of the “better” ecchi anime — ones I’ve watched at least. This should not be correlated with the romance-harem genre even though the criteria cross over frequently.

I’ll try to keep it clean and make a simple case for each one. Gosh, I hope this doesn’t tag me as the pervert of the staff. Well, whatever!

Opening Your Day: Highschool of the Dead

It’s an anime version of Left 4 Dead with fan service, minus the special infected.

Best Anime of 2010: Highschool of the Dead

From a huge list of anime that was aired in 2010, I could have easily picked what I thought was going to be selected as Best Anime of 2010. However, despite all the gaga over K-ON!!, I feel that in the overall picture, Highschool of the Dead fits the bill better.

I’m not a big zombie fella and but with all the talks about these undead things terrorizing the world, I couldn’t ignore it.

I was actually disturbed when I heard from a close friend of mine that the director/producer really wanted to focus on breast movements. (Source unknown so for all I know, this could be a lie.) Well, Highschool of the Dead did showcase unabashedly the buoyancy and NSFW jiggles of each girl except Alice, so in that regard they were majorly successful. I think the best example of how over-the-top it got was when Saeko did some major matrix evasive maneuver as Takashi fired a sniper bullet.

But what I see in Highschool of the Dead is a lot of meaningful action that has been lacking for me. On top of that, you got varying intensity levels of drama, betrayal and jealousy, the will to survive, and lunatic manipulation. The lead characters in Takashi and Rei aren’t too impressive for me but the secondary wave of leads are key factors. Saeko’s gentle exterior vs. her sadistic mental capacity, Saya’s “I’m-a-genius” chant and tsun-tsun unrequited love for Takashi; and Kohta’s gun-nerd perversions stabilizes the otherwise generic troubled would-be couple while tackling the end of the world.

I can go on about why I think Highschool of the Dead is the Best Anime of 2010. Before it turns out to be an analytical review, it is safe to say that this series got an amazing amount of hype and when I first started watching it, I quickly claimed it as the best series of the year. While it ended rather slowly — and no thanks to a slower manga release — this season itself is worth the acclaim and the potential is still there now that the escape plan goes into phase two.

Anime Review: Highschool of the Dead - 12 (end)

Highschool of the Dead

So, when does the second season of Highschool of the Dead begin? Anybody? I suspected something fishy was going on when Takashi and group were told to get their butts moving and find their parents at the 15 minute mark. I thought “Hey now … this is the last episode and the entire mansion is getting swarmed … you don’t have the time to go searching for your parents”. The ending couldn’t have made it more obvious a second season is necessary, but even if the anime gods do not come through, I thoroughly enjoyed the show’s fun and frantic run.

Highschool of the Dead

Banning Shido from the Takagi residence wasn’t something I had expected, but none the less a good alternative to having Rei blow his face off with that rifle. Though, I would have preferred that conclusion. I guess the bits of Shido humanizing helped me to understand where his character was coming from, and so I can’t make ill wishes to someone with a crappy childhood growing up the way he is. With that, good-bye Mr. Shido and your orgy bus of fun, best wishes to you out there in that zombie infested hell.

Highschool of the Dead

Taking a step back from the usual zombie slaying and boob groping, the gang has to decide whether to leave the safety of the new larger group or quickly separate before the adults take all their resources. Knowing they probably want to continue to find the whereabouts of their loved ones, disbanding and doing it fast makes more sense at the moment though placing themselves in danger once again. Good thing someone happened to fix their Humvee so they can make their speedy get-away.
