Marvel Wanted Don Cheadle For First “Iron Man” Film

With it recently being reported that Marvel originally considered Mark Ruffalo for Louis Leterrier’s 2008 The Incredible Hulk, it now appears that Don Cheadle was nearly cast as James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes in the first Iron Man film.

The role of Rhodey would, of course, go to Terrence Howard in the 2008 film, but this nearly wasn’t the case. Howard himself discussed the issue when he appeared on Sway in the Morning.

More after the break.

Marvel’s Delayed “Phase One” Set Due For April Release

After issues around the packaging caused the set to be delayed, Marvel has now announced that their “Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One” Blu-ray collection will be yours to own on April 2, 2013.

Pre-orders for the collection are up and running once more, and apparently the delay has allowed Marvel to add an additional content to the set, with little teasers and previews of the next wave of films from “Phase Two.”

When asked about the previews, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was fairly vague, noting that they will include “footage, concept art, and a few new surprises.”

The “Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One” collection will retail from $219.00

“Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled” Preview

If you thought Marvel and their Avengers were done taking your money, you thought wrong, since the movie just surpassed the $600 million mark in domestic grossings. Marvel is set to release a special 10-disc, 6-film Blu-Ray collector’s set of all their movies released thus far.

In this trailer, a preview of the contents is included with a mash-up of footage from the various films, including short interviews with the series’ stars—though, it’s interesting to note that for The Incredible Hulk they show Kevin Feige rather than star Edward Norton.

More information is set to be released on July 15th with no official release date set. However, The Avengers Blu-Ray & DVD release is scheduled for September 28, which would at least indicate a probably release date for this set.

You can pre-order your set here at phase1avengersassembled.

The 10-Disc set is broken down as such:

  • Marvel’s The Avengers - Blu-Ray & 3D Blu-Ray
  • Captain America: The First Avenger - Blu-Ray & 3D Blu-Ray
  • Thor - Blu-Ray & 3D Blu-Ray
  • Iron Man 2 - Blu-Ray
  • The Incredible Hulk - Blu-Ray
  • Iron Man - Blu-Ray
  • Bonus Disc - “The Phase One Archives”
  • Collectible packaging with exclusive memorabilia from the Marvel Comics Universe

Official “Avengers” Cinematic Timeline
(Click through for a larger image)
Marvel unveiled its official timeline of events for its Avengers-related films. It models the timeline after Christianity’s calendar replacing Jesus at the center with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. Where as Christian calendars are broken up into B.C and A.D (Before Christ and Anno Domini) this Avengers timeline is broken up into BIM and AIM (Before Iron Man and After Iron Man).
The timeline chronicles all of the events depicted in the six films from starting with the Jotunehim invasion of Midgard/Earth all the way up to when Avengers assemble.
Of note is the exclusion of Aang Lee’s Hulk clarifying for fans whether or not Louis Letterier’s The Incredible Hulk was a direct sequel or not.

Flash Friday Review: The Avengers Tie-In Films

It’s been awhile since I last did a Flash Friday review, and what better way to bring it back than reviewing a series of films leading up to one of the year’s biggest releases, The Avengers.

With a movie that was years in the making — five separate installments building up to it — let’s take a look back at each of those film’s starting with 2008’s Iron Man after the break.
