“Dragon Quest X” Announced, To Be On Nintendo Platforms In 2012

The latest title in the popular JRPG series was announced during a Square Enix Dragon Quest event. The game, titled Dragon Quest X Online: Rise of the Five Tribes, will be coming to a Wii near you.

As the name suggests, the game is somewhat an MMO-style game which expands on the multiplayer element of Dragon Quest IX. At this point in time, it does seem like an online Dragon Quest game, rather than the traditional offline JRPG that the Dragon Quest series is known for.

So it’s like the FFXI of the Dragon Quest series, in terms of being an MMO in the midst of a string of traditional offline JRPG.

Don’t Hold Your Breath For That Star Wars MMO
For those keeping hope that Star Wars: The Old Republic would be releasing sometime soon, you may want let it go for a bit. Eric Brown, CFO of Electronic Arts, was recently quick to point out that the MMO won’t be out until at least the 2012 fiscal year, which technically begins April 2011. But consider a target date of somewhere in the actual year of 2012 to be more fair.
So move along troopers, nothing to see here for at least 12 months.

Gamer Spends $15,000 To Play On 820 Foot Screen

On the night of November 21st, a Chinese gamer plopped down $15,000 for the opportunity to play on an LED sky screen that’s 820 feet long. The Place — a landmark in Beijing — is home to said screen that’s 250 meters long and 30 meters wide and is currently the largest LED screen in Asia.

The supposed wealthy gamer was jealous of the fact that a rival MMO player was able to play on an IMAX theater, so he did what any gaming baller would do: Reach into his couch cushion for some loose change and buy-out the largest screen he could find. That he did. He strolled into The Place, sat down on a lounge chair below the screen, in a squared section that was taped off just for him, took out his laptop and played a Chinese MMO called Magic World Online 2.

Now before everyone blasts this guy for wasting $15,000 when he could have used it for more practical gaming necessities, just think: If he could afford to drop 15K on something like this, he probably can afford to buy anything on whim. Heck, he probably already owns every gaming equipment out there, and already has the most epic gaming set-up installed in his gigantic gaming room. A set-up most of us can only dream of.

Check the break to see a video of the gamer in question playing on his $15,000 rental.

Final Fantasy XIV Cheating Its Players By Copying and Pasting Same Map Designs?

It seems that limiting players a certain amount of hours of gameplay won’t be a problem in Final Fantasy XIV since its possible to see the entire design in a matter of minutes. Beta testers of the MMO are increasingly getting suspicious at why Square Enix would copy and paste the same design layouts over and over again through the entire FFXIV world. Is this simple proof that Square just can’t create interesting enough worlds that they’ve taken the lazy way out? It’s a shame to see such a company as this to take cheap development routes.
