Here are your top five films at the box office for the weekend of June 29th-July 1st:

  1. Ted - $54.1m (Opening Weekend) - ($50m production budget)
  2. Magic Mike - $39.155 (Opening Weekend) - ($7m production budget)
  3. Brave - $34.011m = $131,685,000 10-Day Total - ($185m production budget)
  4. Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection Program - $26.35m (Opening Weekend) - ($20m production budget)
  5. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted - $11.815m = $180,012,000 24-Day Total - ($145m production budget)

Even with a surprising performance from a trio of films, the box office was topped by the R-Rated comedy, Ted. The first feature film directed by Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane opened up to an impressive $54 million in its opening weekend, easily passing its reported $50 million production budget and has been a huge hit with audiences.

Film Review: Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted

“These pillows are filled with baby birds.”

I need to start this review by saying I’m not a huge fan of this series. Much like the Ice Age films, I’m not entirely sure, beyond obvious monetary reasons, how this became a series. These weren’t necessarily characters that I felt could sustain a single film, let alone the multitude of films & spin-offs they’ve been in.

With all that being said, this is a thoroughly entertaining film, mainly because it’s bizarre, surreal & off-key with reality. More floundering animated film series should be as ballsy as this one has turned out to be…

Movie Forecast: June 2012

Yes, yes, I know I’m a week late. However, the month of June is just underway with another wave of hotly anticipated summer blockbusters set for release this month. There’s a bunch of notable films including the likes of Snow White and the Huntsman, which opened up last Friday, along with films like Ridley Scott’s Prometheus and Pixar’s Brave set for release later this month. There are also a couple of interesting smaller films out so be sure to check them out when they’re released.
