“Say hello to Aleksei Sytsevich,” tweeted Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb, along with this picture on Saturday. This is our first official look at the character, played by Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti (Sideways). Whether or not he will appear in his signature animal suit in the film remains to be seen, but Giamatti appears to be bringing the intensity to the role of a Russian mafia thug turned genetically enhanced super villain. The film is scheduled to hit theaters in North America on May 2, 2014.

Director of the Tobey Maguire-starring Spider-Man trilogy, Sam Raimi, recently revealed to The Huffington Post that he can’t bring himself to watch Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man.

After Spider-Man 3’s lackluster response, the powers that be at Sony, plus producer Avi Arad, decided to start the franchise afresh and go in a different direction. Raimi was busy developing a fourth Spidey film when he got the news.

As well as Jamie Foxx’s Electro, it seems as if The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is getting another villain. The Hollywood Reporter says that Paul Giamatti (American Splendor, Sideways, John Dies at the End) is in talks to play the Rhino in Marc Webb’s Spidey sequel.

It now seems as if the wheels are firmly in motion for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In recent weeks and months we’ve seen Shailene Woodley confirmed as Mary Jane Watson, Jamie Foxx confirmed as the villainous Max Dillon/Electro and Dane DeHaan confirmed as Harry Osborn.

With Foxx now officially on board as Electro, Blackfilm.com managed to catch up with him to ask about whether we’ll see Electro’s famous bright green and yellow attire.

As the title suggests, Dane DeHaan has been officially confirmed as Harry Osborn in the sequel to Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. It was rumored several weeks ago that DeHaan was in the running for the role, but Marc Webb took to Twitter to confirm the news. This was then followed up by an official press release.

Having been first rumored a few weeks ago, then discussed by director Marc Webb and Foxx himself, it’s looking increasingly likely that Jamie Foxx will be joining The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Max Dillon, a.k.a. Electro. To further this story, Access Hollywood managed to grab a word with Foxx, who confirmed that the deal is highly likely, although not quite confirmed.
