Hello everyone, and welcome to the beginning of a new season. Who else is excited to start with a whole new lineup of anime?

Aside from Chihayafuru 2, we are ready to feature a number of Spring shows here. As previewed earlier, it is the season of mecha, supernatural and mystery titles. In addition, there are a number of key sequels that will likely garner your attention. While we have our own preferences, we also want to reach out to everyone. You know the deal now — choose up to three new anime you want us to cover all season without fail.

Please do note that anime series targeted at younger audiences and those not running a full twenty-some minutes have been filtered out. If you feel like any titles are missing from this list, leave a comment and we will count that as a vote. The poll is right after the cut!

Poll: Winter Anime 2013

[via]

It’s time to say goodbye to 2012 and welcome ourselves in 2013! Hope you all are enjoying your early winter delights and staying away from the sick bug. If you need a cure, you know you can always turn to anime for a quick fix. But watching anime means opinions and discussions, and we’re going to ask for your help.

Kicking off the coming winter season includes a couple of noteworthy sequels, and a lot of cute girls doing cute things. The list may not be overwhelming by any means, but it may entertain you for the majority single-cour titles. Most of your recognizable production studios are back at it, competing for our fandom. Not to get too far ahead, but let’s hope the new lineup doesn’t disappoint.

You know the deal by now: select up to three anime that you want reviewed by our anime staff and let us take care of the rest. Be sure to be heard because your thoughts really do matter: the top 3 vote-getters are guaranteed to be covered by us this season!

Poll: Fall Anime 2012

[via]

At long last, the Fall season nears! This new season should harvest more of your anime interests as thirty-two titles are expected to air, and many of them look quite promising. A number of familiar production studios are back at it to entice you back indoors and away from the breezy weather that is to come. Even though summer has come and gone, it is time for a fresh start, but in order to do so, we’re going to need a little help as usual.

This season, we’re going to have four full-time reviewers ready to contribute and we are asking you, the readers, to pick your 3 most anticipated series of the third quarter. The top three vote-getters will get indefinite coverage, so now is the time to voice your preferences and be heard. The new season begins soon, so quick, vote for your top three!

Poll: Summer Anime 2012

[via]

Summer love is definitely in the air. Out of the twenty-six new anime that will air this summer, eight of them will be romance based. Some may be a bit risque; others more dramatic; or if you’re into feudal Japan, there is one for you.

Of course, summer romance isn’t the only feature of this season’s lineup. There is a good blend of comedy, fantasy and sci-fi, and you can anticipate a few worthy second seasons that may up your anime alley.

At first glance, the list might not overwhelm you but after looking into some of them, including a number of historical series, they have potential to be dark horses. I’m probably expecting more surprises than absolute sure things but this isn’t about my thoughts on the season.

Readers, tell us what interests you and pick up to three shows that you would like to see reviewed on Population GO. The poll is right after the break!

Poll: Spring Anime 2012

[via]

The new season is dawning upon us soon, which is an exciting time for many of us. I mean, sure, we can go out and enjoy the warmer weather but nothing beats investing twenty minutes of watching some good anime, right? I mean, I think the new cool thing to do is bringing out your laptop to watch anime outside, no?

As usual, the second quarter’s list includes a number of sequels and a vast list of potential hits making their animated debuts. Even without inclusion of OVAs and movies, the list is huge, making attempts at watching every pilot episode possible only for the truly dedicated of otaku. I’ll be the first to say ‘no thanks’ to that after getting burnt out attempting the feat for the recent Winter season.

Now the only thing we want to know is: What do you, our readers, want to see reviewed on Population GO? Your choices matter to us, and this time, you get to choose up to three new anime series for better results. After all, we’ll be covering the top three so why can’t you choose your top three? Make them known quick!

Vote for a Spring show, or three, after the break!

Poll: Winter Anime 2012

[via]

Hey everyone, hope you all enjoyed your holidays! For those off from school, recuperate and get ready for another academic run; for those with full-time jobs, keep at it.

As for myself, if I had a New Year’s Resolution, it is to watch some good anime. Yup, nothing new from previous couple of years and the new Winter season has some promising titles. Even with a number of Fall anime carrying over, this Winter lineup is no slouch.

Included are a number of sequels, four JC Staff productions, several risque titles and plenty of seiyuu fanfare. Whether you’re into space opera, soccer drama, some serious ninja action, or some slapstick comedy like Kill Me Baby (image above), there’s a wide variety for you to pick from and try watching. (I’m already having a hard time narrowing down my list but for the time being.)

It is important to know what you, the readers, want to see reviewed on Population GO. The top 3 vote-getters will definitely be reviewed! Hit the break for the poll, or simply comment or reblog this post for your voice to be heard!

Anime Preview: Spring 2011

Based on the extensive preview from Random Curiosity, I have a good idea of which anime to watch and which to keep an eye out for. Here’s my personal list with expectation ratings of out 5:

Definitely watching:

  • Nichijou — It’s KyoAni and a potential for a new Lucky Star/K-ON! (3/5)
  • Hidan no Aria — It’s JC Staff and the Toradora tandem returns. (3/5)
  • Maria Holic Alive — Hilarious to the core, hell yeah to season 2. (4/5)
  • Ao no Exorcist — Hype and this season’s course of a must-see. (5/5)
  • C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control — Interesting premise, said to have Durarara feel, so I’m sold on that. (5/5)

Keeping an eye or two on:

  • Hen Zemi — Checked out the OVA and it’s very strange. Also the interest persists as a former psychology student. Abnormal psychology is very twisted in some ways, as previewed in the OVA. Plus Hanazawa Kana. (3/5)
  • Hanasaku Iroha — Seemingly bland premise but I can probably relate to the main character in the search for oneself, a self-discovery. Can serve as my second slice-of-life series of the spring. (3/5)
  • A-Channel — Another alternative to a slice-of-life with 4 high school girls in it. Might just watch for the hell of it because I am not liking this season’s romance-harem stuff. (2/5)
  • Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko — I always get lost when I watch SHAFT productions and I’ve yet to finish Arakawa Under the Bridge. But it might help to keep an eye on it in case this season gets sour. (2/5)
  • Lotte no Omocha! — Vulgarity aside, it seems like an innocent title. But this is as far as I’d go for a romance title this spring. (3/5)
  • Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai II — Only for Elsie and that’s it. (3/5)
  • Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai — The pains of growing up seems to be the premise and it promises some good drama but I don’t know if wanting to revert back to the good old days will rub me in a positive light in the end. Probably the likeliest I’ll take from this list. (4/5)

Please note that premieres will most likely be pushed back a week or two depending on the situation in Japan. With the delays to the current winter season, the spring season will also get delayed.

PSP2, Fall 2011

Rumors of the PSP2 are now preliminary details of this long-coveted portable device. Development of the new PSP2 promises a huge upgrade, including the potential inclusion of a touch panel and a HD screen. However, some quirks still need to be worked on to maintain stability in all of its high standard glory. Sony has yet to go public with this as they have not finalized its inner and outer designs. But it is slated for Fall of 2011 if things go well.

NBA JAM, Political JAM

Sure, NBA JAM is making a return after all these years but the announcement wouldn’t feel complete without the political delegates making an impact. Yessir (and ma’am), tie your sneakers and pull up those shorts, funny-faced politicians of yesterday and today will show you how to slam the rock into the basket. They’ll even surprise you with some long range shots, some dirty no-calls and impressive hops! Don’t sleep on them in NBA JAM!

Kimi ni Todoke: Second Season

Although the fall season has just started, big news for the coming winter season in January. Fans of KnT can look forward to a second season to continue the much anticipated love story between Kuronuma Sawako and Kazehaya Shouta. Expect a return of most of the cast and witness a romance that may soon bloom beyond the telling of the first season. Who else is waiting to hear the sweet, innocent voice of Noto Mamiko? I sure am!

K-ON! Movie Announced!

Although the direction of the movie is yet to be determined, a trailer has been released on the tbs anime site. Expect more music, more moe-moe-kyun, and after school tea time! Will K-ON ever end?!

Catherine trailer

Might be slightly old news:

Fans of the Shin Megami Tensei series, celebrate the future release of a still-Atlus title called Catherine. More directed at adults, the setting of Catherine takes place in the same world as the Persona 3 and 4 universe. The protagonist Vincent made a brief cameo in Persona 3 Portable as seen here. The focus seems to be on the concept of dreams, and has designs of some horror themes as well. Better beware, or those killer sheep will spook you. Planned for releases in both the XBox 360 and Playstation 3.

The Venture Bros. - Season 4.5

A whole new season of The Venture Bros. returns to Adult Swim! Premieres this Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 11:30pm ET/PT. And if you missed the first half, you can watch all the episodes now on adultswim.com.

Enjoy!
