Brad Bird Will NOT Be Directing “Star Wars: Episode VII”

[via]

As soon as it was announced that Disney would be purchasing Lucasfilm, fan and media speculation has been running wild on what direction the Star Wars franchise will take and who will be steering the ship. Quick to rule themselves our were Steven Spielberg, Zack Snyder, Quentin Tarantino and J.J. Abrams. Up until now, the only person to actually admit any interest in helming a new Star Wars installment has been Guillermo del Toro.

Whilst del Toro is an option that would be generally applauded by the masses, another name on the lips of the Internet is Brad Bird, director of The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

The Internet has been abuzz over the last few weeks with what a new Star Wars movie will entail; what direction the story take, what characters will be involved, who will be cast and who will direct, etc. In the last week or so, first we had Steven Spielberg, Zack Snyder and Quentin Tarantino rule themselves out, then J.J. Carrie Fisher Confirms She Would Be Interested In “Star Wars: Episode VII”

Hot on the heels of Mark Hamill discussing his possible involvement in a new Star Wars film, and Harrison Ford reportedly being open to returning as Han Solo, it was only going to be a matter of time before somebody spoke to Carrie Fisher.

Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy, was accosted by TMZ (who else) at LAX yesterday. She was asked if she would be interested in reprising her role for the new Star Wars installment, lined up for 2015. Fisher’s response was an abrupt, decisive, “Yes. Sure. Wouldn’t you?”

If the next film was indeed set up as Episode VII, following on from Return of the Jedi, then it’d be pretty impossible to not have a much older Princess Leia involved. With Fisher now at the age of 56, she’d be ideal for such a role.

New “Star Wars” Film Has A Director?

I’m surprised that the Internet is still functioning fully and cyberspace hasn’t imploded after the bombshell last week of Disney purchasing Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion. When this news broke, it was confirmed that a new Star Wars film was set for 2015. Since then, there’s been comments from Mark Hamill on his possible involvement in any future films. Then, only this week, there’s stories coming out to say that Harrison Ford would be open to reprising his role as the original scruffy-looking nerf herder himself, Han Solo.

There’s still no definite news on what direction any new films will take, although there are a few rumblings on who may be directing the next film.

Hit the break for details.
