Previously, in Wolverine and the X-Men: The Jean Grey School has now been open for a few months, and has seen students graduate, such as Angel, and new students join, such as the time displaced original X-Men. Faculty members have also changed, with Husk leaving the school, and Kitty Pryde stepping down as headmistress in place of Storm. One thing remains constant despite the changes that the school has endured – this is the school where students and faculty will be the best there is at what they do.

However, the school has faced its share of threats as well. The Hellfire Club has targeted the school numerous times, going so far as to brainwash certain members of the student body, and attempt to recruit others to their own cause. They have also been assembling their own villainous faculty including Sauron, and have welcomed Glob Herman from the Jean Grey School into their new Hellfire Academy.

Previously, in Wolverine and the X-Men: Worried that he hasn’t been very true to his ideals of teaching mutant children how to survive in a world that hates and fears them, Wolverine bundles a select group of kids into a Blackbird and dumps them into the Savage Land for a survival class, Wolvie-style. Unfortunately, the class is co-opted by Dog Logan, Wolverine’s time travelling half-brother.

The kids’ side with Dog, feeling that he is their best bet to defeat the hordes of cavemen, robots, and cowboys that have mysteriously appeared in the Savage Land – unbeknownst to them, it is Dog’s Time Diamonds that have brought them here, as a test for the kids. Previously, in Wolverine and the X-Men: Hank Pym created an artificial intelligence which gained sentience and tried to kill all organic life on the planet numerous times; its name was Ultron. Although it was defeated at every turn by the Avengers, the worry persisted that Ultron would eventually gain enough power to win once and for all. That has happened – and the remaining superheroes must live in an Age of Ultron.

After discovering that Ultron was in fact attacking the heroes from the future, Nick Fury took a team through the timestream using Doctor Doom’s time platform to stop the robot once and for all. Wolverine and Sue Storm, however, decided to use the platform to travel back in time instead, and murder Hank Pym before he ever creates Ultron in the first place.

Previously, in Wolverine and the X-Men: Worried that he is losing touch with his teaching abilities, Wolverine selects the most dangerous and most in need of assistance students from his classes, and takes them to the Savage Land on a field trip. Their mission, and the only way to pass the class, is for the students to work together and escape the Savage Land, rendezvousing at the parked Blackbird on the opposite side of the jungle. Wolverine leaves them to fend for themselves and stalks away to watch in peace.

The students don’t fare too well, with their lack of teamwork scattering them across the jungle. Wolverine is distracted from his young charges however by the appearance of his long-lost half brother, Dog Logan, who promptly beats Wolverine to a pulp and captures him. Using the Time Diamonds that allowed him to travel from the past, Dog rips open the timestream and sets threats from across history on Wolverine’s unsuspecting students.

Previously, in Wolverine and the X-Men: The Jean Grey School has accepted a large amount of new recruits over the last few weeks. The five original X-Men have arrived from the past; numerous X-kids who were living on Utopia have enrolled after the Avengers/X-Men war; and new mutants have been appearing all over the world after the Phoenix Force reignited the mutant race. The student body is ever growing, and with each student needing their own special mentoring to do with their powers, the faculty are taxing themselves to keep up, especially with outside threats like the Hellfire Club constantly out to destroy the school.

Wolverine has taken a small selection of students to the Savage Land in order to train them himself.  Quentin Quire, Shark Girl, Eye-Boy, Sprite, Idie, Broo, and Glob Herman are released into the jungle with one mission – get back to the Blackbird together. Wolverine leaves them to it, and watches them from afar. But whilst studying his young charges, Wolverine is attacked by his long-lost brother, Dog, who has time travelled to the present to show his brother who’s boss.

Previously, in Wolverine and the X-Men: The Schism between Wolverine and Cyclops has sent the two halves of the mutant population in vastly different directions. Cyclops now wages revolutionary war with his Uncanny X-Men, whilst Wolverine has returned to Westchester and opened his own school to teach mutants. Among the teaching staff are headmistress Storm, teachers Kitty Pryde, Rachel Grey and Iceman, whilst students include Genesis, the teenage clone of Apocalypse, psychic maelstrom Quentin Quire, and the original five X-Men, transported from the past by the Beast.

Between the threat of the Hellfire Club, the recently departed Murder Circus, and Mystique and her Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, the school is constantly under threat. As a result, Wolverine doesn’t often get a lot of time to do any actual teaching. Now it’s time to change that – with a field trip to the Savage Land!

Previously, in Wolverine and the X-Men: The Murder Circus has left Salem Center after being soundly defeated by the combined might of the Jean Grey School students and faculty. However, both Frankenstein’s Monster and Calcabrina, the creatures behind the Murder Circus, were able to escape. Calcabrina used what seemed to be the last of her strength to summon her demonic master, Azazel, to this plane of existence.

Before the insanity of the Murder Circus, the school had just accepted Storm as its newest teacher, after health issues lead to Husk stepping down. After the events of the Avengers/X-Men conflict, Storm’s marriage to the Black Panther was annulled, and Kitty’s relationship with Colossus was dissolved. Iceman has been making some advances, but with Kitty no longer with Piotr, now may be the time for him to make a proper move.

Unfortunately for Max, Frankenstein’s Monster has arrived in Salem Center too, and has his sights set on killing Max, which would finally free him from the curse of the Frankensteins and allow him to rest. To this end, Frankenstein’s Monster has manipulated the teaching staff of the Jean Grey School into attacking both their own students, and Max Frankenstein. Now the students, lead by a reluctant Quentin Quire, must protect Frankenstein and save their teachers from themselves.

Penciller: Nick Bradshaw
Inkers: Walden Wong, Scott Hanna, Norman Lee, and Danny Miki
Colourist: Laura Martin
Letterer: Virtual Calligraphy’s Chris Eliopoulos

Previously, in Wolverine and the X-Men: New mutants are appearing across the globe thanks to the power of the Phoenix being dissipated throughout the world. Some of these mutants are drawn to the Jean Grey School, such as new students Shark Girl and Eye Boy. Some of these mutants are instead recruited by Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. And some of these mutants are collected by Kade Kilgore and the new Hellfire Club for their own nefarious purposes.

Swearing revenge on the Hellfire Club for their heinous actions, such as the attempted brutal murder of Broo, Wolverine has made it his mission to stop them. Plus, the departure of Husk has left a gap on the teaching staff list at the school, which Kitty Pryde has filled by employing Storm, one of the oldest and most experienced X-Men. But all is not well in Salem Center, as the circus is coming to town — Frankenstein’s Circus is not what it appears to be…

Previously, in Wolverine and the X-Men:  The Avengers vs. X-Men conflict is over, but the Jean Grey School is still reeling from its effects. In the light of her inconsistent manner, headmistress Kitty Pryde asks Husk if there is anything wrong, only to enrage Husk and cause her to quit. This now leaves the school with one less teacher, a void which must be filled.

There is also the matter of the Hellfire Club, who have set up shop in the same district as the Jean Grey School. Using an android, they infiltrated the nearby church and poisoned Idie’s mind, causing her to act drastically different to her usual mannerisms. This lead to Broo leaving the school dance to investigate, but upon finding the Club’s members, he was brutally shot and apparently killed.
