Game Review: Alan Wake’s American Nightmare

“So it’s going to be like that again?” asked Alan Wake as he steadied his flashlight and pistol against the twisted human caricatures colored in shadow and madness.

Well, when it comes to Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, the latest installment in the Alan Wake series, the answer is both yes and no.

Is this standalone title a worthy addition to a cult favorite? Or should you conserve those Microsoft Points for something much dreamier?

Weekend Remix: A Light Mix

Song: Darksydephil - Alan Wake (Brandflugan Remix)
By: Brandflugan
Based On: Darksydephil-Alan Wake
Original Composers: Darksydephil

Get the flashlights ready, as this time we’re battling the Taken with this Alan Wake remix.

Opinionated game walkthrough guide Darksydephil ended up hitting on some funny bones when he decided to present his Alan Wake song. The tune originally featured DSP’s humorous lyrics against the pop hit Thriller, essentially creating a catchy joke.

Brandflugan’s remix of his tune is no joke. Well, that’s half right. The humorous lyrics are still intact, but this time Thriller has been replaced by a straight-laced techno tune. No worries, however, as Brandflugan’s take is even more catchy and fun then DSP’s original. In fact, if Alan Wake had somehow involved a level in a seedy night club—where the lights of course go out at some point—Brandflugan’s remix would have greatly fit within the game.

Of course, if you’re like me, you could just fire up the tune while playing the game, and have a potential club hit playing while you’re slaying dozens of Taken. Strobe light and glow sticks are completely optional.

If you’d like to hear more from Brandflugan, you can view his YouTube page here.

Until next weekend…GO Party!

360 bundle to include Alan Wake and Forza 3

Microsoft will be rolling out their annual XBox 360 bundle just in time for the holidays. Their latest will include a 250GB Xbox 360 S console, Alan Wake and Forza Motorsports 3. The only downside — for those of you that prefer physical game purchases to add to your collection — is that you can only download Alan Wake from XBox Live Games on Demand.

My personal opinion? While a bit lame, you better get used to downloading your games. It seems to be the direction the future is headed.

This bundle is priced at $299.99 and will be available in the middle of November.
