Comic Review: Batman #20

Writers: Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV
Pencillers: Greg Capullo and Alex Maleev
Inkers: Danny Miki and Alex Maleev
Colourists: Fco Plascencia and Brad Anderson
Letterers: Richard Starkings and Comicraft’s Jimmy Betancourt, and Dezi Sienty

Previously, in Batman: The return of the Joker and the relentless assault of Talia Al Ghul’s Leviathan organization has damaged Batman’s relationship with his allies almost beyond repair. Retreating into himself after the death of his son Damian, Batman feels the need to tackle all of his problems alone. This includes trying to find out who has been committing robberies in the guise of Bruce Wayne – obviously, it is not him. Batman deduces that the culprit is Clayface, but when he confronts the villain, Clayface attempts to choke him to death.

And in our back-up story, Batman reluctantly accepts Superman’s aid when a mysterious light is seen inside a tenement building, alongside reports that numerous people have entered the building and not been seen or heard from again. Superman’s enhanced senses allow the duo to track down a survivor, who tells them that ‘it’ won’t let them leave. Concealed on the ceiling is a monstrous supernatural beast – which renders Superman’s advantages moot.

Hockey And GO Combine For Jerseys

Canadian artist Dave Delisle decided to combine his love for hockey and geekdom with these custom made jerseys. I’ve never really played hockey, but I would gladly sport that Robotech jersey.

“A jersey isn’t just a glorified sweater. Or some sweaty uniform that gets worn during a game. Jerseys are much more than that — they’re the tuxedo of geeks.

Worn all over the world, for any occasion, they demand attention. But something has always been missing from jerseys, a bit of je ne sais quoi, you might say..”

You can actually view more selections and purchase them here.

Artist Mom Drew 2,000 Pop Art-Related Napkins

Brooklyn-based artist Nina Levy has given her two sons’ lunches a special artistic treat for six years. In that span, her sons, Archer and Ansel’s lunch boxes have contained neat pop art-related napkins drawn by Nina — 2,000 of them so far.

You can get a taste of some of the characters she’s featured above, but check out her site for more.

8 New Screenshots For “Batman: Arkham Origins” Released

After the announcement of Batman: Arkham Origins, fans of the gaming series have been curious to see just how Warner Bros. Games Montreal will handle the game, since Rocksteady Studios are no longer the team behind the game.

Today has seen a flurry of 8 screenshots released, giving us a good look at Deathstroke and the Black Mask, alongside Batman on a snowy Christmas Eve in Gotham.

The screenshots have also been accompanied with the news that Kevin Conroy will not be voicing Batman, as Warner Bros. Games Montreal wants “to use a new younger actor because the game features Batman in his early years.”

To check out the rest of the screenshots, check out the source.

Batman: Arkham Origins is currently slated for an October 25, 2013 release.

Batman Fan’s Own Bat Cave

When Chris Weir purchased his home, he had one main thing in mind: basement space.

Weir is a huge Batman fan who after two years and $150,000 later managed to build his own Bat Cave. It doesn’t quite have a Batmobile, but the cave does have a home theater that features a 100-inch TV screen with rows of cinema seats for guests, table football, a bar, and his hundred thousands dollars worth of Batman memorabilia.

He even has a replica of the William Shakespeare bust in Wayne Manor that activates the hidden door that leads to the cave. Check it out.

Comic Review: Batman #19

Writers: Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV
Pencillers: Greg Capullo and Alex Maleev
Inkers: Danny Miki and Alex Maleev
Colourists: Fco Plascencia and Brad Anderson
Letterers: Richard Starkings and Comicraft’s Jimmy Betancourt, and Dezi Sienty

Previously, in Batman: The Joker returned to Gotham City, and waged war on the Bat-Family. Despite eventually triumphing against the Clown Prince of Crime, Batman’s allies no longer trust him the way that they used to, and this has shaken the Bat-Family to its core. Even Alfred no longer trusts Bruce Wayne in the same way that he did before.

And during the war between Batman Incorporated and Talia Al Ghul’s Leviathan organisation, Bruce Wayne’s son Damian, also known as the current Robin, was murdered by the Heretic. Bruce was sent into a spiral of depression, lashing out at criminals and going days without sleep. Only the intervention of Harper Row was enough to convince Batman that he needed to stop and mourn his son properly. After the assault from the Court of Owls, the Joker’s re-emergence, and now the death of Damian, it has been a horrible year for Batman.

Fan Favorite ‘13 - Sweet 16: Mabel Pines vs. Batman

image

After a grand total of 32 casualties in the First Round, 16 survivors remain in the hunt for the title of Fan Favorite. And from here on out, they’ll do battle the old fashion way: 1 vs. 1.

The older twin sister from Gravity Falls surprised many when she narrowly edged out two geeky powerhouses in the most-voted match of the First Round. One of the characters she defeated was the little partner of her next opponent, The Dark Knight, who had no problem serving some hard justice to a couple of foes.

Who will be the first to land in the Elite 8: the newcomer Mabel Pines or the experienced Batman? Help decide by voting after the break!

Pencillers: Andy Kubert and Alex Maleev
Inkers: Sandra Hope and Alex Maleev
Colourists: Brad Anderson and Nathan Fairbairn
Letterers: Nick J. Napolitano and Carlos M. Mangual

Previously, in Batman: The Joker returned to Gotham City and declared war on the entire Bat-Family. Launching simultaneous assaults on anyone who wears a bat on their chest, the Joker’s attack culminated in the kidnapping of the entire family and attempting to force Batman to kill them all. Batman rescued the family, defeated the Joker, and rescued Alfred who had been captured by the Clown Prince of Crime. But the ordeal has shaken the faith that the family had in Batman, and nothing will be the same between them.

Meanwhile, Batman has been fighting an all out war with Leviathan, the organization run by his ex-lover, Talia Al Ghul, the mother of his child, Damian. When Talia attacks Gotham City head on, Batman calls on the entirety of his Batman, Incorporated allies to fight back. During the battle, Damian battled the Heretic, Talia’s overgrown clone of Damian, who killed Damian with a sword through the gut. Batman has lost both his Robin, and more importantly, his son.

Whilst Justice League is still officially set for a 2015 release, it has not been without its share of problems — the latest reports suggest that the film may be pushed back as far as 2020. This isn’t the first time that the project has tried to get off the ground and it’s not the first time that a JL project has had troubles.

More after the break.

How To Make Your Own Batarangs

I’m sure that many of you, whether you are Batman fans or not, have always thought it would be cool to have your own set of batarangs. Well, thanks to this handy little video walkthrough, you can now make them!

So long as you have a fully equipped blacksmith shop, and are trained to use the heavy machinery of course, but details.

Watch the video above to see Tony Swatton, the man behind the “Man At Arms” web-series create the batarangs. As you would expect, they are pretty darn lethal.
