As the latest in the ever-evolving Castlevania series, MercurySteam’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate is a comfortable compromise between the 2D platforming of old and flashy modern combat.
No, it doesn’t play like the old handheld Castlevania games. It also lacks the cinematic flash and freer movement of the 2010 reboot Lords of Shadow. But as a new opportunity from publisher Konami to wield a virtual whip against the undead, Mirror of Fate is a blast.

Konami has confirmed the official release date for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate. The 3DS-exclusive will be arriving in North America on March 5, 2013.
Mirror of Fate takes place 25 years after the events of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and acts as a prequel to forthcoming title Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. It follows the story of Gabriel Belmont’s descendants, Simon and Trevor Belmont, and is being developed by Mercury Steam, the team behind the first game. How Alucard fits into the puzzle may have to wait until the release.

The Nintendo lineup of portable games is pretty well packed full of great releases through to the end of the year and now they’ve announced when we can play some of those games.
The two biggest games to get firm release dates are Paper Mario: Sticker Star, which is headed to store shelves on November 11 and Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, which will be released on October 28.
Unfortunately, it’s not all good news, as Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon was a casualty and will be delayed to 2013. You can be sure Nintendo will update its status in the near future.

The trailer features Gabriel, protagonist of the original title, going all sorts of crazy on an entire army of soldiers and an enormous wooden golem. Then Alucard appears and things get a little more complicated.
Expect more information on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 next week at E3 2012.
