There’s news today that Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Velvet Goldmine) is in talks for an undisclosed role in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII.
El Mayimbe over at Latino Review broke the scoop, and he has a pretty good track record with breaking casting news. Let the speculation begin on what role he’ll be playing, but if it’s true, my money’s on Jacen Solo (if they even go down that road).

It’s happened to everyone. You’re watching a movie, and things are starting to wrap up, and all of a sudden, you see it: The Perfect Ending. But then a strange thing happens… the movie keeps going. Even though they had the perfect ending, the filmmakers don’t end their film, and in the process, come dangerously close to tarnishing your entire opinion of the film in the process.
This has happened numerous times in films that I’ve watched, and today, I’m looking at my Top 5 examples of films that failed to stick the landing because they didn’t end minutes or seconds sooner.
Beware, spoilers ahead…

“Say hello to Aleksei Sytsevich,” tweeted Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb, along with this picture on Saturday. This is our first official look at the character, played by Academy Award nominee Paul Giamatti (Sideways). Whether or not he will appear in his signature animal suit in the film remains to be seen, but Giamatti appears to be bringing the intensity to the role of a Russian mafia thug turned genetically enhanced super villain. The film is scheduled to hit theaters in North America on May 2, 2014.

“I wish I had done everything on earth with you.”
The quintessential high school English teacher’s go-to novel for nearly the last century, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby has received no fewer than five film adaptations and an opera. So why on earth did we need another film version of this masterwork? The honest answer is, we didn’t, but it’s more likely that none of the previous adaptations have been wholly successful in bringing the novel to life.
So how did director Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) & executive producer Jay-Z fare on their version of Gatsby? Read on to find out…

One of the most disastrous films of the last fifteen years was New Line Cinema’s 2000 film version of the iconic role playing game Dungeons & Dragons. Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Warner Brothers has reacquired the film rights to the property.
They appear to be pretty far along in the development process, which has its roots in a script entitled “Chainmail” that was written by David Leslie Johnson (Wrath of the Titans).
Warner Brothers certainly has a corner on the fantasy genre, what with having produced the film versions of Harry Potter & The Hobbit, so it seems like a pretty good fit.
What do you think? Is there any way to make a good film out of a property this dense?

Last month we had reported that Tom Hiddleston was very close to signing a deal to play the lead in the reboot of The Crow, but now it looks as though the role will go to Luke Evans (The Raven).
Evans will be busy over the next few months with his villainous turn in Fast & Furious 6, and his role as Bard, the slayer of Smaug, in the upcoming second Hobbit film. The film is set to begin filming early next year to accommodate Evans’ busy schedule.

“You can call me a hobo, ‘cause I’ll do work. You can call me homeless, ‘cause right now that’s true. But if you call me a bum one more time, I’m gonna teach you a lesson your daddy didn’t.”
Writer/director Jeff Nichols created one of the more interesting films of the last few years with 2011’s Take Shelter. As a matter of fact, now that David Gordon Green has moved on to almost exclusively direct stoner comedies these days, Nichols has become the premiere Southern gothic filmmaker. His latest film Mud, in addition to being his best film yet, continues the year long winning streak of its star Matthew McConaughey, that started with last year’s Bernie.
So why and how is it his best film yet? Read on to find out…
