After a stuffed holiday season, gamers usually anticipate a bit of time off to catch up on last year’s favorites that they might’ve missed or glossed over.

But 2013 is not one of those years.

Looking at the first six months of this year, publishers are pulling out all the stops, delivering games such as Ni No Kuni, DmC, Rayman Legends, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Gears of War: Judgement, and God of War: Ascension. As good as all these games will be, they didn’t even crack the list of Top 5 Most Anticipated Games Of Early 2013.

Announced via a world premiere trailer, at the 2012 VGA awards, Naughty Dog’s upcoming action-survival game The Last of Us will be hitting store shelves pretty soon. In fact, the game will now hit shelves on May 7th, 2013.

Put those pre-orders down now because the wait isn’t long for Ellie and Joel’s adventure.

“The Last of Us” Is Willing To Do Anything To Survive

Perhaps the best trailer to come out of Gamescom today is from Naughty Dog’s upcoming game, The Last of Us

Desperately doing anything to survive, Joel and Ellie are out on the road and minding their own business until they get ambushed by other survivors. What follows is a thrilling example of the grit and tenacity that gamers have drooled over since the game was first unveiled earlier this year. And the finale is a chilling example of the harsh world Joel and Ellie are living inside of.

The Last of Us is expected to be released in 2013 on the PlayStation 3.

New “The Last of Us” Trailer Shows Another Survivor And Ellie’s Potty Mouth

It hasn’t been all comics, movies and TV shows at Comic-Con 2012. There’s been some interesting tidbits coming out about the big releases over the next year or so.

Probably one of the more intriguing games to have a trailer is The Last of Us, showing off a cutscene directly from the game. The trailer introduces us to Bill, another survivor who’s more mechanically inclined and will be helping Joel and Ellie with fixing up a car, and foul-mouthed Ellie, who, despite plenty of opportunities thus far, is only making her first appearance.

The Last of Us is expected to be released in 2013 on PlayStation 3.

Premiere of “The Last of Us” Gameplay From Sony’s Press Conference

As expected, Sony debuted the first public footage of The Last of Us in action as Ellie and Joel battled for their lives against a few of the psychotic survivors that inhabit Pittsburgh.

The gameplay is slightly reminiscent of Uncharted, fitting since it is developed by Naughty Dog, and had Ellie jumping in to help out Joel in combat trouble spots, including a grisly execution after getting a hand. There are fewer gun battles since there is little ammunition to find and an increased focus on making do with the few supplies they can scavenge.

Expect more information on The Last of Us this week at E3 2012.
