image

[via]

It’s happened to everyone. You’re watching a movie, and things are starting to wrap up, and all of a sudden, you see it: The Perfect Ending. But then a strange thing happens… the movie keeps going. Even though they had the perfect ending, the filmmakers don’t end their film, and in the process, come dangerously close to tarnishing your entire opinion of the film in the process.

This has happened numerous times in films that I’ve watched, and today, I’m looking at my Top 5 examples of films that failed to stick the landing because they didn’t end minutes or seconds sooner.

Beware, spoilers ahead…

“Lord Of The Rings” LEGO Helms Deep

This Lord Of The Rings LEGO edition of Helms Deep was built by Rich-K and Big J and is truly one of the most creative LEGO created film scenes.

It certainly uses a lot. The two used 150,000 LEGO bricks and 1,700 minifigs. I’m sure even Peter Jackson would be impressed.

Film Review: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Part 2)

image

Yesterday, my esteemed colleague Andrew brought you his view of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. If my opinion didn’t vary so vastly from his I wouldn’t burden you with it, but I feel it only fair to give you, my dear and faithful readers, a second opinion on what I feel is one of the absolute worst movies I have ever laid eyes on.

Gollum Watches Over You At Wellington Airport

It’s already apparent that New Zealand is pretty fond of the Lord Of The Rings. With Peter Jackson having shot the film adaptation of the book series in the country, that fondness makes sense. And it often shows itself in such unique ways.

Wellington Airport unveiled a 13m Gollum in the ceiling of the diner area. As pictured, it appears to be reaching for a NZ Rainbow Trout. The sculpture was designed and produced by Richard Taylor and Weta Workshop Supervisors Rob Gillies and Sarah Morris.

Many are excited about the sculpture in Wellington, including Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, who confessed to already being a Tolkien fan.

“I was given one of those paperback copies of LOTR for Christmas when I was 12, she said. That was a very, very quiet Christmas as I read my way through those books!”

New Zealand Releasing “Hobbit” Coins And Stamps

With Peter Jackson having filmed his Lord Of The Rings and the upcoming The Hobbit films in New Zealand, this latest news item probably makes sense. On November 1, the country will release commemorative coins and stamps based off of J.R.R. Tolkien’s characters. While the coins can be used as currency, it’s probably not practical. The most expensive coins made of pure gold will cost fans $3,020 but will only have a face value of NZ$10. The stamps however, should be much more affordable.

“The Hobbit” Being Shot At 48 Frames Per Second

Somehow I missed this news, but Peter Jackson announced that he was going to be shooting The Hobbit at the higher frame rate of 48 frames per second, in an attempt to make the 3D much more fluid, life-like and easier on the eyes. About ten minutes of footage debuted at CinemaCon today, and the reaction to it is all over the map…

Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” Debut Trailer

It’s been a long time since the fantasy epic Lord of the Rings trilogy was in theaters, but the missing piece of collection has been the long-awaited The Hobbit movie.

The film is still a year away from landing in a theater near you but it will be the guaranteed must-see film of 2012.
