Summer Wonder Festival 2012: Alter, Kotobukiya, and MegaHouse

Dark Magician (Yu-Gi-Oh) by Kotobukiya

I love the Dark Magician as much as anyone, but sometimes the figure choices at this festival are quite unexpected.  This summer’s upcoming figures from power house producers Alter, Kotobukiya, and MegaHouse can be seen in all their glory under the cut.

Video Toy Review:  One Piece Logbox - The Underwater Prison Impel Down (MegaHouse)

*May contain spoilers*

Here is my first video toy review. Hopefully I can do more of these kinds of reviews in the future with other collectibles. I know I was speaking kind of fast in the video but YouTube has a limit on how long videos can be. Just to kind of reiterate some of the things I talked about, overall these three inch dioramas are really something.

When I saw them on display at the usual store I frequent in Little Tokyo Los Angeles, I knew I had to pick them up. There are six blind boxes in a box but I was fortunate enough that the store was selling the whole box so I was able to get all the figures and was able to complete the seventh figure. There is an extra piece that comes with each character that come together to make the bonus figure.

There were little parts where the paint chipped off or maybe didn’t get paint at all but they’re very small and minimal. Considering the size, the details are quite something and the colors are pleasant. This is a great set to add to your One Piece collection but again, they might be sold as individual blind boxes so happy hunting!

The rest of the set can be viewed at Flickr. Check it out to see what pieces come with which character. Also I added some neat photos of the seventh figure. ^_^

Now onto the rating, which I forget to mention in the video. There were minor imperfections in some of the paint jobs but the designs are solid and “pretty sweet”, which I realized I did mention a lot in the video. ^_^

GO Rating - 4.5/5

One Piece in Wonderland

[via TOMOPOP]

I have to pick up this set by MegaHouse. It’s One Piece meets Alice in Wonderland and everyone looks like they’re having a great time ^_^. If you can collect all 9 60mm figures, you will be able to have a cute little round table to piece together for all of them to gather around. A box of 10 that runs for ¥6,000 could get you the whole set but don’t hold your breath, you might get doubles. Pre-order these cute little guys at Hobby Search, Hobby Link Japan or ToysLogic.

Soma’s Toy Tuesday: MegaHouse’s P.O.P. Strong Edition of Monkey D. Luffy

VIA Tomopop

I found this while checking out my main figure blog Tomopop. Click here to jump over to the site to see more photos ^_^

“I have to give my utter respect to MegaHouse. Next to Kotobukiya, they tend to release a massive load of male figures. While I’m not really into One Piece (my friends talk my ear off about it, though), I have to say it’s pretty damn awesome that they continue to make figures of the many characters that are in the series. I can’t say that I’m familiar with his Luffy but hot damn, when did he look ever so manly?!

He’s based on a 1/8 scale and will be released sometime in December. The retail price for him is about 5,985 yen and since the pre-orders were opened a couple of days ago, he can be found easily all over the internet. MegaHouse is also releasing a Chopper figure to go along with the “strong edition” Luffy!”
