Kinokuniya is the largest book store chain in Japan with 56 stores in Japan and 28 stores overseas. Heaven may be closer than you think as Kinokuniya has nine U.S. store locations. This post will be limited to talking about their branch in New York City, as that is, unfortunately, the only one I had the pleasure of visiting.
The end of this post will contain a list of their U.S. stores. Click the break to find out more.

If you haven’t heard by now, Ai Yazawa’s manga and anime series Paradise Kiss is now being made into a live action movie. Production is already ending and the movie is set to be released in Japan by Warner Bros on May 2011. Keiko Kitagawa (Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift) will play Yukari ‘Caroline’ Hayasaka and Osamu Mukai (Beck) will play Jouji ‘George’ Koizumi.
Check out the official Paradise Kiss site for more information.

Warning: Spoiler… kinda.
For those of you not familiar with the manga or anime, Paradise Kiss follows the life of Yukari Hayasaka, a typical high school student whose life is bland and boring. Her mother is always pressuring her to study for college, following a path that is placed before her regardless if it makes her happy or not. Not certain with what she wants to do with her life, Yukari starts to question her way of life. Meanwhile, a group of fashion design students with a clothing label known as “Paradise Kiss” needs a model to showcase their designs in an up-coming fashion show. One of the members, Jouji ‘George’ Koizumi, an aspiring fashion designer, scouts Yukari and the group decides to pick Yukari (now nick-named Caroline) to model. At first, Yukari is reluctant to be associated with this eccentric group but eventually, she realizes they are really nice people with a huge passion in life. Their enthusiasm to follow their own ideals and dreams makes Yukari realize that she hasn’t been enjoying her life and is motivated to pursue her own dreams and find her own path.
Since Ai Yazawa’s release from the hospital in May 2010, many fans are still wondering if she will continue working on the NANA series which was put on hiatus in June 2009. Due to her injury, Ai Yazawa hasn’t gripped any writing tool and isn’t sure when she will continue the NANA series. Unfortunately, there are no updated news regarding her health or her current works but at least we can still get a taste of Yazawa with Paradise Kiss.
