Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to another installment of the Weekend Re—HEY!

Don’t fall asleep on me! I realize this week’s tune has to do with a nocturnal journey, but that’s no reason to snooze. I promise that this week’s chosen tune is anything buy sleep-inducing. Dreamy, sure. But I assure you that it’s no reason to drool on your pillow.

While Sonic Team may be best known for projects involving a certain popular blue hedgehog, many of their other projects have gone on to achieve both critical praise and cult status.

One prime example is perhaps NiGHTS, the 1996 Saturn title that was praised and loved by many for its interesting character designs, beautiful lush graphics and that unique feeling of flight. If seeing Disney’s Peter Pan made you wish for what flight felt like, then NiGHTS was perhaps the closet way to feel it at that time.

But like any worthy Sega title, NiGHTS contains one of the most memorable and creative soundtracks in video games. The fine music chefs over at Over Clocked Remix realized this, as they’ve concocted a special remix album that was recently released this month.

The entire album comes highly recommended, but one of the most interesting remixes to pop out to my ears  is probably Benjamin Briggs’ She Had Angry Pixels. The tune is based off of everyone’s favorite Operatic Nightmaren Puffy.

While the original She Had Long Ears, creatively played around with elements of classical, jazz fusion and opera, Briggs’ version of the song is a full electronic overhaul, full of stuttering drum beats that seems to dance at a much faster pace. Sprinkle in a bit of chiptune, and you’ve got a song that makes this sound like a boss battle from a lost Genesis gem, rather than a Saturn title.

You can find more of Briggs stuff here. And you can also download NiGHTS: Lucid Dreaming here.

Until next weekend…GO Party.
