As one person online has said on Toon Zone forums“As always, the humor is idiotic and childish. Nothing is every genuinely funny or witty.”

So what’s Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada’s response to all the Ultimate hate?

Weekend Remix: The First Rule About Flight Club

Song: Depth Perception
By: Insert Rupee
Original Song: Hang Glider from Pilotwings Resort
Original Composer: Asuka Ito

Friends, please join me as we prepare to take flight for this week’s Weekend Remix.

Ocremix and halc have just released a new EP titled Take Flight, a seven-song tribute to the music of the Pilotwings series. The work features the efforts of mostly halc, but Benjamin Briggs and halc do team up a bit forming the duo Insert Rupee. The featured remix Depth Perception is one of the results of their collaboration.

Using the breezy Hang Glider tune from Pilotwings Resort, Insert Rupee manage to give the song a fun groove while maintaining its gliding calm.

The start-stop intro of the remix is clever, and reminds you of an old propeller plane struggling to start up. It takes a few revs as the music yanks about as if attached to some ripcord. But it’s not long before the song starts up and takes flight. If the familiar melody or hook are the wings that give this audio plane its ability to glide, then the additional energetic beats are definitely the engine that keeps the propeller spinning.

The EP is a great tribute to the soundtrack of Pilotwings, but its Depth Perception that truly serves as the exclamation point in this homage statement.

You can download the ep here.

Until next weekend…GO Party!

Opening Your Day: Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight

No Sequel To “Kid Icarus Uprising”

If you were looking forward to another sequel to Kid Icarus, well then I’ve got some bad news. According to the Super Smash Bros. and Kirby creator Masahiro Sakurai, who along with Project Sora were behind Kid Icarus Uprising, there isn’t going to be a sequel. Or if there is going to be one, it’ll at least be another 25 years and in someone else’s hands.

New “Dredd” Images

Right after yesterday’s image of Lena Heady’s character in the upcoming Dredd comes a few more images of the film. And this time, they’re action-packed.

Until the movie’s September 21st release, we truly won’t know if this reboot will wash away the memory of the Sylvester Stallone version. Still, the pictures do look promising.
