In Sony’s PlayStation press conference today, social connectivity and quick access to games were all the rage. The PlayStation Network is brushing up on its social skills, while Gaikai’s cloud-based gaming service will allow quick access to games. And once the PlayStation 4 comes out, the PlayStation Vita will allow you to game anytime, anywhere, in a way that hasn’t been possible before.

Hit the break for details.

Sony’s Promotion: One More Reason To Buy PS Vita?

It’s nearing February 22nd, the official launch date for the PlayStation Vita, and Sony has just thrown in yet another promotion in hopes of getting more consumers to pick up their latest portable gaming device next week.

This time, the promotion will focus on the cross-platform feature that allows the PS Vita to connect to the PlayStation 3 and play games across these two platforms. In order to promote this feature, Sony is allowing buyers of some PS Vita’s launch game to receive copies of the game for both consoles at the price of one.

Hit the break to find out more about the promotion.

You Can Play Your PlayStation Portable Together With PlayStation Vita

Not planning to upgrade your PlayStation Portable to the new and upcoming PlayStation Vita, yet wanting to play Monster Hunter together with your best pals with their PlayStation Vita?

Well, not to worry, as Sony has announced that the PS Vita will be able to connect and communicate with the PSP via ad-hoc mode.

The catch? The game in question would have to support both the PS Vita and the PSP.

Here’s a look at the multi-coloured PlayStation Vita

Not happy with the black or white PlayStation Vita? Then take a look at all the multi-coloured PlayStation Vitas which were on showcase in Japan. There is probably a colour for everyone. Personally, I would take the original black one since it’s my favourite colour and goes together with my other PlayStation consoles, but the blue PSV isn’t too bad.

Do note that these multi-coloured PSVs are not for sale, they’re just for viewing purposes. But judging from what Sony had been doing for the PSP over the years, you can be sure that they’ll push out multi-coloured PSVs in the future.

So treat it as a preview of what will come in the future.

A Look At The Packaging Of PlayStation Vita And Its Games

After the Sony press conference focused on PlayStation Vita, they showcased the PlayStation Vita packaging, as well as the box/case for its games.

Both are unusually blue. I wonder why they decided to change the game casing to a blue one complete with a blue band, since we’re all so used to the black band around the top for both the PS3 and PSP games. I guess it may be to distinguish the PSP from the PSV games?

So now, it’s White for Nintendo, Green for Xbox360 and Blue for PSV.

You might have also asked the same question as I did when I first saw the Uncharted game case. Why do they need to have such a huge casing for that tiny memory card? I mean gaming manuals comes in SHEETS of paper nowadays, so it definitely can’t be to contain the gaming manuals. What happened to having environmental-friendly cases?

“Zone of The Enders” HD Remaster On The PS3 & PS Vita

One of my favourite game designers, Hideo Kojima, took the stage today at Sony’s Pre-TGS conference to announce the HD remaster edition of Zone of The Enders, another one of my favourite games on the PS3 and PS Vita.

It’s set to be released in 2012 and will make use of the new Kojima Fox Engine’s Transfarring, which will allow cross gameplay, as well as transfer of save game data between the PS3 and PS Vita.

“Final Fantasy X” To Be Remastered On PS Vita & PS3

During Sony’s pre-TGS conference today, Square Enix has also announced that Final Fantasy X will be remastered for the PS Vita and the PS3.

Take note, it’s a remaster, not a remake. It’s more like the PS2 titles which were remastered into HD editions on the PS3, except this time it’s also on the PS Vita. So don’t get your panties in a bunch screaming why FFVII isn’t remade.

PlayStation Vita To Launch In Japan On 12/17/11

[via]

This just in! During Sony’s pre-Tokyo Game Show conference taking place now, it’s been announced that the highly anticipated successor to Sony’s PlayStation Portable, the PlayStation Vita, will be released in Japan on December 17, 2011.

This means Vita will probably only reach shores outside of Japan in 2012.

Multiple Social Networking Features To Come To The PlayStation Vita

With social networking a necessity in almost everyone’s lives these days, Sony has revealed that the PlayStation Vita will include several social networking features, in addition to its own “Near” and “Party” features.

It will include downloadable social apps for Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Skype, which will be provided free via the PlayStation Store.

PS Vita will be launching outside of Japan in early 2012 and end of 2011 in Japan.

“Silent Hill: Book of Memories” For PS Vita

The Silent Hill game for PS Vita has just been unveiled at Gamescom as Silent Hill: Book of Memories.

Now this isn’t your typical single-player Silent Hill game. On the contrary, it’s a multiplayer game, likely to make use of PS Vita’s social features such as “Near” and “Party”. It also has an overhead isometric view, so I guess that would cut down on the scary factor. It also features character creation as well as melee combat and shooting of guns.

That said, fans of Silent Hill do not panic, Silent Hill: Book of Memories is considered to be outside the canon Silent Hill universe.

Silent Hill: Book of Memories is set to be released for the PS Vita early 2012.

“Resistance: Burning Skies” For The PS Vita

There will be a new Resistance game coming to the Vita; yes, it’s a brand new game and not a remake. The new entry in the series will be titled Resistance: Burning Skies, and will be developed by Nihilistic Games, the studio who also developed Playstation Move: Heroes and Starcraft: Ghost.

The game will take gamers back when the Chimera first invaded Earth and will feature Tom Riley, a brand new protagonist. He is a firefighter who is “swept up in events” and is transformed “from a humble hero to a full hero” during the entire game. Burning Skies will also make use of the Vita’s touch functionality for rockets and grenades.

“Little Busters!” Set For The PlayStation Vita!

Popular Japanese visual novel “Little Busters!” is being ported yet again. This time, it’s coming to the PS Vita under the name “Little Busters! Converted Edition”. Not much is known about this latest port, but Dengeki has reported that the PS Vita version would have a resolution of 960x544 as compared to the 800x600 of the PC version. It goes without saying that there will also be visual upgrades to the game, as Key will probably take advantage of the technology offered by the latest Sony portable console.

Wonder if they’ll be able to incorporate touch into the game? Well, since “Little Busters” is being ported, hopefully it’ll also pave the way for “Clannad” ports. I’ll never get tired of “Clannad” no matter how many ports or versions of anime Key can possibly come up with.
