Pop GO Presents: Reader Appreciation Week Podcast

Pop GO wouldn’t be what it is today if it didn’t have the continued support of the readers. So this week, while not as ambitious as the first Reader Appreciation Week, is meant to do just that: show our appreciation to our wonderful readers out there!

To help celebrate this week, a few staff members — Calvin, Erin, Ian, Paolo and Steve — came together and recorded a special podcast this past weekend. And thanks to those of you who sent in topics, they had a lot of good things to talk about!

If your topic was chosen by a specific member and discussed by the rest of the staff members, then you will be given an awesome prize from the member who chose your topic! Did your topic get chosen? Download the podcast to find out!

And even if you didn’t send in a topic, give the podcast a listen. Very good discussions were had on it, and it’ll allow you to familiarize yourself with a few of our writers.

Hit the break to listen to Pop GO’s special R.A.W. Podcast! :)

Podcast Update

Just wanted to let everyone know that the podcast we promoted all last week was recorded this past weekend and will be published later today at 5pm PT.

Big thanks to everyone who sent in topic ideas through Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter and email! Our staff very much appreciated it. Be sure to listen to the podcast to see if your topic was chosen by one of the staff members and to find out what prizes they will be giving away.

To everyone who didn’t send in any topics, give our podcast a listen anyway! It was created for you, the readers. There’s some good discussion going on, and it’s a good way to familiarize yourself with some of Pop GO’s writers. Depending on the type of support we get, we may possibly make podcasting an official, regular thing in the future.

Finally, the creation of today’s special podcast is a big part of our Reader Appreciation Week, which we have been quietly celebrating this week. In addition to the podcast, we’ve tweaked the site a bit, adding some new features here and there. We’ve also got a bunch of original content and a contest or two still coming your way this week, so be sure to check them out!

Enjoy!

LAST CALL: Submit A Geeky Podcast Topic And Possibly Win A Prize!

image

A group of staff members will be recording a special podcast this weekend but they need things to talk about!

Send in geeky topic ideas for a chance to not only get your topic discussed and featured on the podcast, but to also win yourself a cool prize such as manga, comics, video games, anime and film DVDs, among others!

Try to give us broad topics that can be discussed by different staff members. For example: “What’s your favorite anime of all-time?” WON’T work because the non-anime watchers won’t be able to discuss it, but “What’s your favorite hobby?” WILL work. Although, I would try to be a bit more creative than that. Good example: “If you could choose a character (from anime, cartoons, comics, film, gaming, or television) to babysit your kids, who would you choose and why?”

Leave your topic in our Ask Box or email us your topic (write ‘Podcast Topic’ in the subject) at populationgo@gmail.com. Don’t be shy! :)

Podcast Announcement: Send Your Topics In!

Next week, June 18-22, we will be having another Reader Appreciation Week! While it may be a little less ambitious and more simple and straightforward this time around, we’ll still provide some goodies for our readers.

Among those goodies is a special podcast loaded with prize giveaways! Familiarize yourself with some of our staff members as they talk about things you want to them to talk about.

Each staff member on the podcast will give their thoughts and opinions on several geeky and otaku-y topics. These topics — every single one of them — will be topics submitted by you, our readers. Not only that, those whose topics get discussed on the podcast will win a pretty cool prize!

“Hi 5” with Yuumegari!

As a result of participating in my chat during Reader Appreciation Week, Robbin aka yuumegari, met the bare minimum requirement to get a chance to get Hi 5’ed by the chat host—that awesome dude being me. (Haha) After a week of intense pondering, she got singled out to have this once in a lifetime opportunity!

Although she is from the West Coast and stands eleven inches shorter than me, we did find several things in common. We both studied Japanese as a major in college and that we have a profound love for GO-related hobbies. Through my exchanges with her, I had the pleasure of getting to know her and giving her a Hi 5… if only she could reach.

Despite my assumption of how I would treat her should we actually meet, here is my interview with yuumegari in a civilized and orderly manner.

Hit the break and check out what she has to share!

“Hi 5” with SetosNiceGirl!

As a qualifier from my chat session during Reader Appreciation Week, I have had the pleasure of interviewing SetosNiceGirl for a Hi 5 segment.

I would like to say that I rarely ever use the word otaku to describe myself. I’ve always used the word fangirl. However, if you think about it, then yes I am an otaku with a mixture of geek, if that makes sense.” - SetosNiceGirl

Read on as I Hi 5 SetosNiceGirl, a reader whom we appreciate, just like we do you.

“Hi 5” with OrangyOrange!

Tumblr is an amazing place to meet some really cool GO-oriented people. Our next featured reader is one of my personal art idols and an amazing person in general. We at Pop GO are proud to introduce to you orangyorange!

You may be familiar with some of OrangyOrange’s work if you follow the fandoms of Young Justice or Homestuck, having drawn fanart for both of them. By her own admission, she’s “a casual geek” and is interested in a wide variety of things, from manga to comic books to doodling. To learn more about this awesome artist, hit the break below!

“Hi 5” with Onkay!

Well, with our recent Reader Appreciation Week now totally a thing that already happened, so comes a heaping batch of holiday Hi 5’s! I recently had a chance to get in touch with one of our readers and ask her 5 seemingly random questions. Hit the break to check out my interview with onkay (a.k.a. Allison).

“Hi 5” with ElectricNeonPanda!

When I picked electricneonpanda to ‘Hi 5’ after our Reader Appreciation Week, I didn’t realize that our origins in the geek world were so similar.  My first gaming system was the NES, and I remember making my babysitter play Mario for me until it was time for me to get shipped off to bed.

Our introductions to anime were also the same; catching Sailor Moon on Toonami after school.  We both cheap out on other things in order to fund our hobbies, and neither of us know what we’d do without our geek hobbies.

Hit the cut to learn more about my panda twin!
