No, it’s not a late April Fool’s joke. Pixar officially announced today that the long-gestating sequel to Finding Nemo will be released in November 2015 and will be called Finding Dory.
Andrew Stanton will return as director, as will the original film’s stars Albert Brooks and Ellen DeGeneres. The only story detail so far is that it takes place a year after the original film somewhere along the California coastline.

The writer-director of last year’s indie hit Safety Not Guaranteed has just been handed the keys to one of the biggest franchises in movie history. Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Colin Treverrow has signed to direct Jurassic Park 4 from a script by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes). Franchise starter Steven Spielberg will serve as Executive Producer.
The film is scheduled to be shot in 3D & released on June 13, 2014.

The Hollywood Reporter has announced today that Harrison Ford will be added to the cast of Anchorman 2 to play a “legendary newscaster a la Tom Brokaw.” He joins the entire original returning cast, as well as new additions James Marsden and Kristen Wiig.
Hopefully this artist’s rendering will somehow make it into the movie.

If you had started to worry that between Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Paul Giamatti’s Rhino & Dane DeHaan’s Harry Osborne, that there might not be enough villains in the upcoming sequel to last year’s Amazing Spider-Man, fret no more. The Hollywood Reporter said today that Oscar winner Chris Cooper (Adaptation) has signed to play the man who would be Green Goblin.
Granted this isn’t too much of a shock since Oscorp did feature so heavily in the first film’s storyline, it just feels like this film is going to burst at the seams if they add any more major characters to the film.

Slashfilm is reporting today that Tina Fey has signed onto the James Bobin-directed sequel to 2011’s The Muppets. Fey will round out the human cast with Ricky Gervais & Ty Burrell, playing a Russian gulag prison guard.
The film also has a working title which is The Muppets…again. Considering that the working title for the previous film was The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever, you can expect that to change between now and the film’s release date in 2014.

After the surprise success of last summer’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Fox fast-tracked a sequel for May of 2014, causing that film’s director Rupert Wyatt to exit due to the time constraints. Their search for a new director has landed them with Matt Reeves, the director of Cloverfield and Let Me In (which I haven’t seen as I have too much reverence for the original). He’s definitely an interesting choice and I look forward to seeing what he brings to the revived franchise.

A website by the name of Cosmic Book News has confirmed that the Marvel Comics villain, who made the briefest of appearances midway through The Avengers credits, will be a major player in both 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy & 2015’s Avengers 2.
While no details have been confirmed yet, I would wager to say that would make The Infinity Gauntlet the new MacGuffin for this series, taking the place of the Cosmic Cube in the first round of Marvel films. If nothing else, at least it confirms that Marvel’s got their act together years in advance in regards to their films.

Geeks of the world rejoice! According to Slashfilm, Joss Whedon will return to write and direct the sequel to this year’s mega-blockbuster The Avengers.
Part of the deal will see him executive producing the upcoming Marvel television series as well. It’s great to see him coming aboard for at least one more Avengers film, and a big part of the reason the film was not just successful, but actually a great film, is Whedon’s sensibility.
No more info is available at this time, but this alone is cause for celebration.
