Weekend Remix: Remix Is On The Scene

Song: Tekken X Street Fighter Ibuki Theme Concept
By: EXZD
Based On: Twilight From Street Fighter III: Third Strike
Original Composer: Hideki Okugawa

Street Fighter X Tekken showed the world what Capcom could do with a healthy union of Street Fighter and Tekken’s best. Now the world stands ready to see what Namco-Bandai has to offer with the proposed Tekken X Street Fighter.

While eagerly anticipating the title’s release, it’s natural that fans come up with their own ideas of what could happen? Most of these ideas took on the forms of artwork. Some, like this week’s remix, present themselves as music.

So just how would Ibuki’s Twilight theme sound through the Tekken lens? EXZD attempts to answer that question, trading in the soundtrack for some countryside ninjutsu training for music to a shadowy leap through an urban landscape. Twilight is a beautiful piece where its sound is rooted in some calm mystery. For instance, its melody breezes through laid-back drums.

That’s not the case here.

EXZD’s concept keeps the familar hook of the original, but surrounds it with sharp synths that pulsate, drums and claps that bounce, and a bass line that forces them all to team up with its dominating presence. It contains enough from the orginal to make it recognizable, yet sounds like it belongs in a Tekken game.

“Tekken Tag Tournament 2” Opening Cinematic

Namco Bandai is trying to get gamers ready for the next King Of Iron Fist Tournament with this opening cinemeatic trailer. I’m digging the remix to the first Tekken Tag Tournament opening song. There’s also a video talking about the multiplayer portion of the game. The game is scheduled for a September 11 release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Otaku Spotlight: Tekken 3 PlayStation OST

Many regard Tekken 3 for the PlayStation as one of the console’s greatest moments. You could say the same for the soundtrack, which is an audio snap shot of the mainstream invasion of Big Beat Electronica.

Placed ahead of Tekken 1 and 2’s more melodious sounds and before the series’ attempts at a progressive and, at times,  unconventional soundtrack, Tekken 3 is a block rocking answer to a world still caught up in the wave of distorted bass-lines, heavy breakbeats, rock guitars and synthesizer-generated loops..

So, let’s take a look at what influenced this soundtrack as well as some of its top tracks.

Weekend Remix: King Of The Iron Mix

Song: Tekken RMX
By: 7DJSpc
Based On: Black Winter Night Sky From Tekken 2
Original Composers:  Akira Nishizaki, Isamu Hoda

This week we’re making the beat drop right into a volcano for the Weekend Remix.

Tekken 2 is often regarded as a game changer for Namco in the fighting game genre. While the first venture to the King Of The Iron Fist Tournament provided some groundwork for their stellar series, and the third entry showed just what Namco’s Magnum Opus on the original PlayStation, it was the sequel that perhaps catapulted the potential of the series’ finer points. This included anything from its graphic, cinematic opening and endings, and refined game play.

Of course, it’s easy to surmise that this effort extends towards the music, which for while, seem to take the musical torch Capcom started with its music and ran. The opening song is a memorable piece, which couple with the movie seems to really present the series’ general evolution. I mean, I couldn’t have been the only one who got goosebumps as the piano melody closed and the camera zoomed on a Hehaichi hell bent on defeating the son the usurped him.

7DJSpc’s remix still retains that “calm before the storm feel,” but the looped melody placed against a hip-hop beat also makes for a fun listen. And it even recalls memories of Cartoon Network’s Toonami segments. If Tekken had developed into its own anime series, rather than a one-shot film back in the day, this ditty could have easily served as background music for the promos.

“Street Fighter X Tekken” Shows Off Pacman, Trolls Megaman Fans

Fighting game fans are very excited about the release of the new mash-up of Street Fighter X Tekken. The rosters are being finalized but prospective owners of either PlayStation version (PS Vita or PS3) are being treated to extra characters such as Cole from Infamous and Kuro and Toro of PlayStation mascot fame.

But there were two “secret” characters shrouded in mystery in the last trailer. This new trailer, fresh from Capcom, pulls the curtain off the mystery figures to reveal Pacman and Megaman. In case you’re wondering, Pacman is riding Tekken’s famous character Mokujin and Megaman’s design is ripped straight from the original box art of Megaman on the NES.

As funny as the old Megaman is, we fans can only keep seeing is our collective, shattered dreams of Megaman Legends 3 and Megaman Universe. This only makes it feel worse, Capcom! I think I need to cry in a corner now…

Opening Your Day: Tekken 4

Fight for what you want, for what you believe in. Just don’t make Kazuya angry though.

“Tekken Hybrid” To Have Prologue Of “Tekken Tag Tournament 2”

For those looking for an early taste of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (TT2), the upcoming special entertainment package, Tekken Hybrid, has got you covered.

Namco-Bandai will include a special prologue of the title in the Hybrid. The prologue will feature Alisa, Xiayou, Devil Kazuya and an unnamed fourth fighter in the playable sample. Each character will have two costumes: one special to Tekken Hybrid and another from TT2.

TT2 doesn’t even have a console release date yet, but this could be an indicator that a concrete time is on the horizon. Besides the prologue, Hybrid will include a HD remake of the PlayStation 2 version of the first Tekken Tag Tournament and Tekken Blood Vengance, a special CG feature film.

Tekken: Blood Vengeance Teaser Trailer

A feature-length CG anime based off the fighting game franchise Tekken, titled “Tekken: Blood Vengeance”, is set to hit 3D theaters in Japan this summer, Bandai Namco Games recently announced.

The film is being produced by Digital Frontier (Appleseed, Resident Evil: Degeneration) and is being directed by notable CG video game animator, Youichi Mouri. Primary video game producer of all Tekken games, Yoshinari Mizushima, will be main producer of the film, and the script is being penned by Dai Sato (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo).

Tekken Movie Trailer

The movie industry hasn’t been doing a good job lately with turning video games into movie adaptations. Just look at Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li, DoA or worst of all, Dragonball Evolution. Did you guys really like the last few movies? I think not, especially with what they did with Dragonball Evolution (and the many mishaps that happened during production is another story o_O). We can say it isn’t the first time video games have turned into movies, however the trailer above doesn’t look that bad. This movie has already been released in Japan and will be released straight to DVD in USA by 2010/2011.

If you have watched Tekken, what did you think? What are your general thoughts about video game to movie adaptations?

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is Revealed

Revealed at the Tougeki fighting game tournament in Japan, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be a follow up to 1999’s arcade original. The game will receive updated graphics and new characters. The above video also seems to show that your able to combo up hits with your tag partner. At this point there is no console release or even a US release but the trailer above states that “other region release dates are TBD” so there is a very high chance we well get the game.

I played the previous Tekken Tag Tournament and had a blast with it, so to say this news isn’t exciting for me, would be a lie.
