Valve And Capcom Prep For Character Crossovers

image

[via]

In what has become a continuing trend for the service, the upcoming PC version of Capcom’s Resident Evil 6 will contain Valve-contributed content when it becomes available on the Steam platform on April 5.

Characters from Valve’s Left 4 Dead 2 will be playable within Capcom’s Resident Evil 6 and, likewise, enemies from Resident Evil 6 will appear in an update for Left 4 Dead 2.

This isn’t the first time Valve IP has appeared exclusively in the Steam version of another publisher’s game: previously, characters from its Team Fortress 2 appeared in the Steam versions of Sega’s Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Robot Entertainment’s Hero Academy.

image

[via]

After debuting at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, there have been relatively few details on the upcoming Steam Boxes from Valve. Now gamers can mark their calendars if they’re in the market for a compact PC to use in their living rooms.

More details after the break.

J.J. Abrams And Gabe Newell Want To Make Movies And Games Together

image

The DICE summit kicked off today with filmmaker J.J. Abrams and Gabe Newell, a co-founder of Valve, giving a talk about storytelling across platforms by analyzing storytelling between games and film.

As the talk was ending, the pair announced that they would like to “make this more than talks” and would like to find a partner to help create this game. Gabe Newell also said he would like to work with Abrams on any potential Half-Life or Portal movies in the future.

It isn’t clear when the game will come to fruition, what type of game it will be, or when the expected release is.

Steam’s Autumn Sale Debuts - Arm Your Credit Card

Name one thing that’s more convenient about visiting a store in-person. You physically hold the copy of the game you bought? Put a mug of warm cocoa and rum in your hand instead. It’s that time of year for Steam’s Autumn Sale!

The daily deals begin November 21 (that’s tomorrow, kids) through the 27th.

Steam’s next biggie, the Winter Sales, runs from December 20 to January 4.
The dates were revealed by Tamás Bakó, CEO of Artery Studios, who says Valve contacted him about putting Secrets of the Magic Crystals in the upcoming Steam sales. We’ve also had the dates confirmed to us by an indie developer, who received them in an email direct from Valve.

Last year, Steam’s Autumn sale spanned November 23-27 while the wintertime sale also kicked off on December 20 before ending around the turn of 2012.

Half-Life: is there no sweeter a name synonymous with first person shooter perfection? Born on the PC in 1998, the game continued in a long standing trend of surpassing expectations of the FPS genre, with dynamic in-game storytelling, grueling challenges, and thought-intensive puzzle traversal.

While a short 6 years later brought Half-Life 2 onto the scene, with similarly critical and commercial success, the original title that started it all has mostly remained untouched… mostly.

Game Review: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

[via]

Counter-Strike is one of the world’s most popular games. You can go just about anywhere and find a PC installed with Valve’s tactical shooter.

But with every updated version of a classic game, there are bound to be naysayers that can’t wait to tell you how the new game is inferior. Is Counter-Strike: Global Offensive a rearmed classic or just a PC relic?

“Team Fortress 2” Introduces Co-op In The Form Of ‘Mann vs. Machine’

There’s been a ton of rumors swarming around Valve and their popular free-to-play game Team Fortress 2 about the addition of a new team to the mix. Valve has now made it official that the Red and Blue teams will have a common enemy in the form of lethal robots.

The new mode will have players staving off death from waves of deadly robots while upgrading their abilities and weapons in between rounds. For their hard work, players will be awarded loot drops after completing their mission. There is also at least one new map being added to the mix for players to duke it out against Team Gray.

The “Mann vs. Machine” update will be released on August 15th.

Scene From “The Matrix” Recreated Using Valve’s Source Filmmaker

Source Filmmaker is a new tool offered by Valve to create 3D rendered movies inside the Source game engine. It’s the very program that Valve themselves have used to create their own animated shorts.

LiveCurious95 has used SFM to faithfully recreate the scene from “The Matrix” where an incapacitated Morpheus is rescued by Neo and Trinity. The animation is pretty solid, with the exception of audio syncing with the lips.

Going live just over a month ago, Source Filmmaker is free to download, so long as you have a Steam account (which is also free).

Now’s Your Chance To Own A Turret From “Portal”

One of my favorite parts of the Portal games has to be the killer robots. GLaDOS and Wheatley both get the bulk of the credit, but we all know who provides the best comedic relief and sits back in the shadows: the Aperture Sentry Turret.

This little bot of death is sleek and stylish with beautiful lines, great aesthetics and dual mounted machine guns for extra firepower. And now you can own one with full motion sensing capabilities and sound effects to protect your living room (mounted guns not included).

More after the break.
